Anybody have a child who had their adenoids removed lately? If so, how long did you keep them home from school-- how many days?
My DS5 had his out on Monday and the dr said he could go back on wed or thur. Any recent experiences would be appreciated!:thumbsup2

My DD is 3 and had hers out along with her tonsils on Friday. She goes to a pre-school M-Thurs. I decided to keep her home all week. There is so much going around right now, the flu being one of them. I felt she could get it a little easier from just having them removed. My 5yr old had a kid with swine flu in her class last week. I'm just taking it easy.

If he is doing good, eating and not needing meds then it would be up to you.

If it's just the adenoids it's really not a big deal. When my son had them out a couple of years ago he was good to go the next day. He had them out on Wed. and was back at school on Friday. I would have sent him on Thursday but he only went M,W,F! He was home by lunch and had chicken nuggets for dinner.

If you are getting tonsils out as well then it is a longer recovery.

DD had her tonsils out when she was 7. That was 7-10 days recovery.
She had her adenoids out this summer at age 10. She felt good the next day, and was 100% within 3 days. Adenoids are usually much easier than tonsils.

if it's just the adenoids it's really not a big deal. When my son had them out at age 4 1/2 he was fine the next day. He had them out on a Wed & was back at school on Friday.

My daughter had her adenoids out last year. She had them out on Thursday and went back to school on Monday. She would have been fine to go back on Saturday if they had school.

DD3 had tonsils and adenoids in April. I kept her home for 1 week. She wasn't eating well yet, but she was fine otherwise.

No idea what to do if it's just the adenoids, but I will tell you that having those out has made a WORLD of difference for DD. She went from being at the pediatrician's office EVERY WEEK and being on significant dosages of asthma meds (and weekly vomiting from coughing that we couldn't prevent) to nothing other than allergy medication, and good health.

My dd had her adnoids out on Aug 5th and was out of school for 2 weeks. She was also out of sports and strenuous activities (PE included) for a month until her follow up. She hated the sports part but the doctor was not willing to risk a bleed neither was I. Her assistant coach is a neurosurgeon and even he explained the reasoning to her in terms she could understand. I don't think I would be comfortable sending them back that quick to school.

The above is what our ENT puts out. She was feeling fine but the ENT is who made the call on the amount of time out. She had a doctor's note and everything. School started here on the 5th.

When my DS2 had his adenoids out, we kept him home for a week and were instructed to keep him quiet for 14 days but 1 week was all we could manage with him and we never had any problems.

My DD5 had her adenoids and tonsils out last January. Having both out from what I understand is a little more complicated. Her surgery was on a Tuesday, I kept her home until the following Monday, and no dance for the next 2 Saturdays. She really was feeling much better after 3 days though.
