I live in a Motor Home community where you can build either a "super pad", a motor coach port with cabana, or a regular house with a motor home port (that's what I have). Anyhow, my DH just called to tell me that one of the motor coach port w/cabana just burned to the ground!:scared1:

Apparently, the roof A/C shorted & caught fire which spread to the bottom of the motor port, etc...

Holy Cow!! I've never heard of a roof A/C shorting & catching fire!! I'm not sure how old and what brand their coach is/was. Thankfully, the owners were home and they & their doggie escaped with no injuries, and they were able to get their car out of the port before it was damaged. I don't know these people, so I don't know if they are full-timers, or if they have another home elsewhere to go to.

This just makes me sick to my stomach!

That is so sad. I'm glad the family is ok. :sad2:

I've never heard of a motorhome community. It's an interesting concept. Probably wouldn't work up here though !!

That's terrible! I hope they have somewhere to go! I said a little prayer!

My DMIL has a place in a motorhome community in NC. I know how they feel like one big family there and how freaked they all would be!

I just got home from work & went to assess the damage. My DH's original info was incorrect. It was the people's home & motor home, not a cabana & port. It just made me sick to look at, and the people lost everything.

Like me, this is their only home. A lot of our residents have their get-away home here, their motor home & then another home elsewhere. (I'm certainly not that privileged.)

The fire was so intense that the siding on the home over 80ft away was all melted, too. Thankfully, there's a vacant lot between the home that burned and the one who had the siding melt.

On the plus side, a lot of our snowbirds are getting ready to head back north, and just about everyone who's leaving has offered their home to be used (for free) by these poor folks until everything can be sorted out.

Once I get some pictures, I'll post them.

Here's a link to our community website so you can see what this type of life style is all about.

Hey des1954

Is that the community that's advertised on billboards near Lakeland on the way to & from Tampa?? Always see the billboards & thought that would be neat to live there. We looked at one of those kind of places in Kissimmee when we were in Ohio & trying to move back down here a couple of years ago. Truck & TT could be included for the right additional price...

One thing to keep in mind with anything in life.... if it was designed, built and/or assembled by humans, and/or has any type of moving part, things like this can happen. Thankfully no one was injured or killed.

You are absolutely correct, Duane!

Holy cr@p!!!! I want to live there for at least the cold months. You are my hero now that I know where you live. That is awesome. Oh sorry about the fire, My Uncle lost his house, (right across the street from ours) about 3 years ago. It was very hard, but the community did a lot to help.

Hee-hee!! Pssst....my house is up for sale!!

Next time you come this way, you'll have to do a drive-thru, just for grins! We bought when the prices were affordable for the average working joe. (DH & I both retired from hourly positions with GTE/Verizon) Now, it's affordable for the above-average working joe. That being said, even the above-average buyer's aren't buying right now. This time last year, when a house went on the market, it was sold within a month. We've had ours on the market since October, and only 2 lookers. Thankfully, we're not selling because we have to, but so that we can move to North Georgia & the beautiful mountains!

That's so sad, I don't even know what to say. Our thoughts and prayers will be with them.

I'm posting some pictures of the fire. :guilty:

Look at the house in the background. It's about 80' from the home that burned, and all the siding is "wavy melted".

My DH said that there were several explosions during the fire...

6 motor home tires, "pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop"

One big BOOM - ala propane tank exploding.

Apparently, the man that owns this home was inside the house when the fire started, and was unaware of the fire. His smoke alarm worked, but the guy is hard of hearing & didn't hear it. The neighbor across the street (whom I'll call "hero") apparently broke thru the door to get the guy out of the house. I don't know where the wife was when the fire started - but she was not in the house.

These folks just built this home last summer.:sad2:
