Oscar Thread

The tread has been fun!

The show...no so much! I think we each deserve a Oscar for stying with it!:thumbsup2

So, The Departed takes Best Picture. I must say, I'm not surprised. I enjoyed the film so it's okay by me. :)

YEAH!!!!! From all of us here in BAWSTIN...that is just so WICKED COOL that Marty and the DEPARTED won!!!!!!!!!!!

Well it was looong and lots of it was boring, but I loooved Ellen!!!

I loved ELLEN tonight!! I thought she did a great job!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

I hate to say this, but Jack looks like a Chemo patient. :(

Well he's going to play one, does that count? LOL

Nicholson and co-star Morgan Freeman are filming director Rob Reiner's film "The Bucket List," a buddy comedy/drama about two terminally ill men who flee a cancer ward to complete a list of things they want to do before they die. It is scheduled for release in November.

Dedication to the craft means going bald once in a while I guess. :cool2:
As far as being creepy, Mr Nicholson is much less creepy than he used to be, if you can believe that.

Its like you WON A OSCAR too!!!!:goodvibes

And the OSCAR goes to.....COURTASANSATINE

I was hoping that Jack shaved his head for a film. As for being creepy, he's always been creepy IMO. ;)

Way to go Scorcese!

Yep He's playing a terminally ill man on a road trip in his current project.

I'm so glad that The Departed won. I really thought it was fantastic. And Scorcese really deserved that oscar in my opinion! But I am so sad for Peter O'Toole. I really wanted him to win, but I wouldn't count him out. He's a tough old bird and I wouldn't be surprised to see him nominated again for something.

Ah that makes sense. I looked on IMDB and missed this. I thought it might be for a film, but I wasn't sure when he stepped to the side and let Diane do all the work. Had me worried there for a moment.

That makes sense then. I'm a long time fan of Jack's and I had a feeling that he would gladly lose his hair for a film even with his rather inflated ego. :)

You know I noticed this with several presenters......I think they were simply allowing the winners to have ALL the limelight. I noticed George Clooney do it and several others.

One of my favorite Oscar moments was when Clint Eastwood interpreted the winners speech for the man who won the Oscar that he had announced. Clint was all class in that moment....very very cool! It even made me weepy! LOL

I'm up and on again. Couldn't stay up all last night. Sounds like nothing extremely interesting happened. So Departed won then? That's what I was thinking was going to win.

Who won best actor and actress?

Forrest Whittaker and Helen Mirren. That is what I got from going back and scanning posts. Scorcese as director and The Departed for film.

Ok, I'm fine with the Oscar for Inconvenient Truth as a documentary, but how did the song win?? Any one of the three Dreamgirls songs was better. I like Melissa, but it really wasn't even one of her best songs.

That song won? WTH?!?!?!

That would of been my last choice.

OK, I was taping and of course did NOT extend the time so I missed my favorite "In Memoriam (clip)".

If you run across it post here, OK?

Did they include Steve Irwin?

I thought her song was much better. Maybe the movie verison was better but all three of those songs were terrible IMO.

But I was actually rooting for the song from Cars.

What was anybody's favorite part. IMO the night as a whole was so bad I am having a hard time. I guess I would have to go with the shadow dancer people, but even that got pointless by the end.

I just got over here to the Oscar thread this morning. Some random responses and comments:
I agree. I think there should be a rule against nominating children. It's a wasted slot for a nomination that could have gone to someone else.
Tatum O'Neal says hi. I don't think there's anything wrong with kids being nominated. Sometimes they give a very special performance and shouldn't be denied just because they're young.
I don't like Jennifer Lopez's dress.
Me either. I thought I was the only one who didn't, Jenn! I usually LOVE what she wears but this one doesn't do anything for me. She doesn't look horrid; I'm just not nuts for it.
oh...why cant they talk about it?????
I wondered about that too. I actually saw John Travolta making the morning show rounds last week and they actually had photos of him in the film. All of a sudden he can't talk about it?
I think they were just joking. They're not supposed to come out plug a new movie. So they just present an award together. ;)
Thanks for pointing that out. It had me :confused3
Winslet's one of the go-to women for her generation. I think she might end up overlooked for a while because now people expect her to give a strong performance.
On the Oscar pre-show, they mentioned that Kate Winslet has the most nominations ever at her young age. (Five noms and she's only 31.) I sure hope she doesn't end up like Peter O'Toole! I'm sure she'll win one soon.
I hate to say this, but Jack looks like a Chemo patient. :(
Thankfully only for a film.:thumbsup2

I thought Ellen was great last night and that's coming from someone who's not usually a big Ellen fan.

Forrest Whittaker had me in tears when he accepted his award.

But the show was TOOOOOOOO LONG!
