orthotic insoles

My son has mostly flat feet.
He wears his good arch support inserts in his Under Armour athletic shoes.
Works great. I can tell a visible difference in his ankles and legs when he is wearing the needed arch supports.

I wear a heel lift in my athletic shoes. (not possible with some dress shoes/sandals... but I do not wear these that often.)
Again, works great.

PS: I guess I am not understanding about the bone not healing.
When there is a fracture, a 'boot' that immobilizes the foot is usually worn for a number of weeks, and this takes care of it.
I also had a fracture and a subsequent neuroma. The fracture healed, because I wore the 'boot' religiously.
The Neuroma got worse. So, I had surgery to remove it. (OMG!!! rough surgery, but so worth it.)

It sometimes takes more extensive treatments, but if there are any options at all, I can't imagine not doing whatever to care for my feet and be ambulaatory!

It is the tibial sesamoid bone. I didn't even realize it was broken until recently as initial xrays did not reveal the break. But, as I have continued to walk on it, the gap in the break has gotten wider and the doctor thinks that the gap is too large to allow any healing at all. Plus it's been a long time, if it were going to heal it would have by now.

The insoles are to relieve pressure on this bone, but it takes some getting used to. Not sure if the insoles will be beneficial after the surgery. I haven't asked that question yet.

My husband has worn custom orthotics for many years for his extremely high arches. We just had his feet re-cast and got new orthotics a few weeks ago because his old pair was about 20 years old (yikes!). It was one of those things that we meant to do for years but kept putting it off. Anyway, $300 sounds like a bargain -- my husband's were $500. He wears them in all of his shoes (no special "doctor" shoes lol)...New Balance running shoes, Allen Edmonds dress shoes, Clarks slip-on shoes, etc...the only shoes he can't wear them in are his minimus trail shoes, at least I don't think he can due to how low profile they are.

I wore custom orthotics for several years with minimal success. I paid $600 for them. I tried the Dr. Scholls orthotics. I paid $65 for them. No luck.

My podiatrist recommended an insole by Spenco. I paid $18 for them. They are amazing! They've made such a difference. My heel pain is practically gone.
