Kentucky mama here- in the beginning stages of planning our first ever family vacation-- we will be going to Disney the first week of October & Im wondering about the weather. Will we need jackets? Shorts? Will we be able to swim in the hotel pools? How about the water parks? Will they be open & will it be warm enough to go?

I've been to WDW many times in October, and the weather can be all over the place. I've gone from wearing tank tops and shorts to jeans and a hoddie in the same trip. You need to pack a little of everything.

We were there in 2011, it was HOT. I think if I remember correctly the first couple of days the heat index was close to 100. So we swam, sweated and drank lots of water. I don't think it even rained if it did it wasn't much. We are also going next Oct, I hope it is cooler but who knows until next Sept!

I was there this year right after Columbus Day weekend. It was HOT and HUMID. (Not July/August temps/humidity, but enough to be sweaty every day.) I brought capris and tees. I did bring a light hoodie just in case and needed it on the airplane, but not at WDW, even in the evening.

About 10 days out, start checking weather.com. They're pretty accurate for figuring out what to pack. That's what I did and it worked well.

Hello,

October is generally pretty warm, if not hot at times. This year we have had some chillier days though. Since Orlando is in the middle of the state, it may be a couple degrees warmer than where I am along the coast, but it's pretty much the same. For an October trip, I would plan for all of the above but leaning towards pretty warm. As far as hitting up the water parks... I can't say that I would be in October BUT that's because 60 feels cold when ya live in FL! But, if I still lived in Ohio and were coming down for a vacation, I still would possibly hit up the water parks, because it would probably feel downright balmy. Hope that helps some. Good luck on planning your trip! :)

We were there this year Oct 8-15 and we were hot and it felt more humid to me than it did when we were there this May. We went to the water parks every afternoon as it was definitely hot enough to swim for us. IIRC it was in the high 80s.

It did feel better when the sun went down though.

Swimming-Yes
Shorts-Yes
Jackets-No

Maybe bring a couple of longer pants and a light weight sweat shirt or hoodie for each person, but it will most likley be hot. I personnally like capris and longer shorts, they work well for all kinds of in between temps :thumbsup2

Have been to WDW the past 2 Columbus Day weekends.... 2011 it was chilly, windy, and lots of rain - like 6 inches worth in a day and you needed a jacket for warmth, under your poncho. 2012 was totally opposite - 90 and humid. Think the normal avg temp is 80's so it's more likely to be hot than not.

We were just there 10/11-10/16 and I was surprised by how hot it was. It wasn't too humid which was nice, but I admit I had been hoping the temps were going to be a bit lower as I had heard could be the case in October. Great time of year to go. We loved the Food and Wine Festival.

The start of Oct is hot. Check the forcast before you go but it's normally shorts/short-sleeves. I'm 7 hours away, on the SC/GA border and even we're still in shorts full-time in Oct. It could be unbearably hot or it could be comfortably hot. But either way, it's highly likely it will be hot! At the end of Oct, then it's quite possible to need a lightweight jacket at night/in the mornings sometimes.

This October has had some cool nights, especially after Sandy went through. Day time temps typically are in the 80's with nights in the 60's.
