Orlando Hotel Experts - Gaylord Palms?

When we drove by this resort, I was always curious about how it looked on the inside. DCLuvinit, your pictures are great! Enjoy your trip, Cali! ::yes::

Just stayed at Gaylord Palms on 3/3-3/7. I'm not a big fan of HUGE hotels and this place is BIG!! It is beautiful though and there is lots to do there without ever leaving. For that price though...it will be worth it.

All rooms have a computer keyboard, refrigerator and coffeemaker (they also bring free bottled water and oj every day). The decor in the room was nice but not fantastic and not all rooms have a bathtub(weird). If this is important to you make sure you find out before you get to your room....it can be a LLLOOONNNGGG walk back to the lobby. Make sure you find out how far the walk is BEFORE they give you your keys. Try to get a room near the lobby or atrium....it's a long walk after being at a theme park all day.

I had a rental car but could never seem to find my way back to the hotel from DW at night. I am very directionally challenged but GP is in a strange corner of Kissimmee and I never seemed to find this place without going to a gas station.

There are numerous restaurants on GP property but they tend to be expensive. A turkey sandwich with chips, and pop was about $12. Breakfast buffet was about $18. These were at the low end of their selections.

I wouldn't go out of my way to stay at GP and if I couldn't stay on property at DW, one of the DTD hotels like the Royal Plaza, etc. would be better than this place. It's just too big and too geared towards conventions to be really likeable. Basically they took Opryland, made a few changes in decor and layout and plopped it in Orlando. If you like Opryland...you'll like this place IMHO.

I am glad to report that they DO give atrium views with the cheapie Priceline rooms! We got it for the same price as you in Dec. 2002, and we were given a room with a view of Key West. We could sit on our balcony and watch the sunset celebration every night. Of course, it was the slow season so that might have been why.
Unless they have changed things, the bottled water is not free. It is part of a rip-off resort fee they tack on every day that is NOT optional. Oh well, it's still a great deal at that price. We had a great tim exploring the hotel. It is beautiful!

Penny & Barb, thanks for the opinions from your stays!

Penny, which section were you in? Did you like it? About the bathtub issue, I think I read that the 2 queen rooms have a tub, the 1 king rooms have a shower. Does this sound right to you?

Barb, did you like the Key West section? The rooms look very colorful! ;)

Thanks! ;)

If you leave out of a drive on the north side of the motel and turn left (Osceola Parkway I believe), it runs right into Disney! Very convenient drive there and back!!

We stayed there last year while my husband was on business. My sil came with us so there were 3 adults. We upgraded to a suite at check in for a very nominal fee. It was huge. 2 computers a very beautiful bath and I loved the balcony overlooking the atrium. We ate at the seafood restaurant there and had drinks on the boat. In my opinion it compares quite favorably to any WDW deluxe. There is also a Canyon Ranch Spa which we used and it was awesome. I loved it there. For 85.00 you got yourself a steal. Enjoy.

Thanks for the additional reports, I cannot wait to try the place out! When I called the hotel to confirm, I asked about their upgrade policy, and they said that based on availability at check-in, we can upgrade the room. We would like to upgrade to a suite if it's available (well, AND if they can give us a good deal!).

I'll be sure to post a review AND pictures when we return! Thanks so much! ;)

I was in the Everglades and had the very last king room at the end of the wing. Didn't check the bathroom until I had unpacked or I would have changed rooms....I need a bathtub!

Their toileteries are nice, though. I brought the shampoos and stuff home. They give you a cool steel like container with a sewing kit, q tips and stuff.

I wouldn't go out of my way to stay there but for the right price (which you got) it could be great!

ENJOY!

Thanks again for the reply. We hope to be able to get one king room and one with with two queens - but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we'll be able to upgrade to a suite. ;)
