Was looking around for some old articles and found this one about a Disney Patent way back in 2007. Possible view in long term plans for FP+?

Also i wonder if this is the reason to change up the FP system because the original FP patent would have expired?

Wow, almost 7 years ago this started. I think i would have liked the part about resort guest using the tv the night before to pick your FP. Good find

I would honestly not mind a FP for pay option. Six Flags does it very well with their flash passes. It's a little costly, but the more people in your group, the cheaper it is per person... You can use it all day and tour the park any way you like. We used it last summer and didn't have to wait more than 2 minutes for any coaster!

Since Disney has had a knack for taking other people's ideas and improving it greatly (please see original Fastpass), I think we could have an elevated version of this and be happy!

Not sure they would do a straight up addon or make it apart of something like the premium Dining plan that already give you free access to the boats and things?

I have always thought this was on the cards, you stay at a luxury resort you get 3 FP's, moderate 2, value 1 or something like that. Universal are now going to have something similar in that you will not get front of line privileges if you stay at their new value resort which is currently being built. You will only get that perk if you stay at one of their more expensive hotels. Not saying I agree with it but I think that's the way this whole thing will pan out.

I like the look of the paper fp on the phone display....of course back when the article was written it was likely a photoshop edit. but now it could be a cool 'vintage' look. I don't know about anyone else but we kinda thought the look of the paper FP's was cool

my guess is Disney would rather be a little more discreet about FP distribution based on spending or resort hierarchy. I could be wrong but I would be surprised to see Disney ever put out a system where guests can clearly determine the haves vs. have-nots with regards to FP privelages and being tied to spending.

Maybe one day the MagicBand will have a little E-ink display to show your next FP return time. They can have it look just like the original FP paper tickets.

Haha who knows maybe the Apple Watch will have that? A little Disney App that shows you an active reading of the countdown to the next ride time and what it is....

I think they have already made have and have-nots with the booking windows. Maybe won't matter for most rides, but there will be some that it will. Same thing could be said for the current ADR system and some ADRs.
