Organic Milk...Does anyone else do this...and why?!

We have joined a CSA farm (organic, you get a box of veggies every week) and we drink "happy cow" milk as my DD calls it. Just a few miles up the road is a HUGE dairy farm, those poor cows stand in the same barn, in poo, in the semi-light of the HUGE stinky barns all the time. Its eat, pee, poo, milk for them. I think that breeds dease and is just plain bad for the cow, enviroment and us. I wouldnt give myself or DD a hormone shot, why would I want to drink one? Also I dont get sick on products that dont have RBGH in them. I buy organic yougurt, cheese (amish cheeses are said to be hormone free) and milk. We have messed up this earth and now we are starting on the animals we live off from. Stepping off my soapbox now!

We recently started giving DDs organic milk. They don't drink that much anyway, which at $5.99 a gallon, I'm glad!!! And yes, that's the cheapest I've seen it. It kills me b/c I can routinely buy regular milk for $1.99 a gallon on sale (and do that for DH...he goes thru a lot on his cereal). I know it's probably best for them, but the price is obscene. I even had a cashier ask me if I knew it was that much after she scanned it. :(

I buy Amish cheese, which is supposed to be closer to organic and my FIL grows most of the veggies we use (and I can or freeze for the winter).

I primarily buy organic dairy products: milk, cream, yogurt, butter, cheese. I like the taste better. If it's not organic, I go for BGH-free dairy. My DD is hooked on Go-Gurts (TM) though. No other brand will do!

I agree. That's why antibiotic use on farms is increasing.

Wow, sorry to hear how much so many people have to pay for organic milk. We get ours for about $2.99 (sometimes less if there's a sale or we have coupons). I honestly couldn't even tell you the price of regular milk cause I haven't bought it in years, but how much cheaper than $2.99 can it be?

My DD is allergic to something in the regular milk. She is not lactose intolerant but, the doctor says it could be the antibiotics they are giving the cows. It started about 8 months ago. She takes organic milk and is fine. We buy the sour cream, cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, mac and cheese, and anything else in organic. It has really helped. However, the rest of us use the regular stuff and we are fine. As in a family with Dairy farmers, we used to drink the milk straight from the barn. We used to shake it up since the cream would settle. I think we are normal and fine. It really is just a matter of one's preference. Good luck. :goodvibes
