Wow, I just discovered them this week. I think without a doubt they are my new favorite holiday treat. :thumbsup2

If you don't know what they are, they crushed oreos mixed with cream cheese and dipped in melted almond bark. From what I understand there are multitude of variations in how you make can make them, but that version is just fine with me. Like someone was trying to tell me you could make it with reduced fat oreos and fat-free cream cheese. LALALA!!! *putting my fingers in my ears* I can't hear you!:rolleyes1

Anyway, just wanted to share how good they were in case someone was looking for something different to take to party.

These are SO good and SO easy to make, and people do not believe it when I tell them what they are made from.

I have added a few drops of peppermint extract into the oreo mixture and also a bit into the chocolate. Then I sprinkle somefinely crushed candy canes on top.

I have also used white chocolate to dip the truffles in and then drizzled some dark chocolate on top. You can also top with more crushed oreo.

I have also used a bit of coconut in the mixture and then sprinkled a bit of coconut on top.

There are so many flavors that you can use, which is another reason why these little treats are so fantastic.

I found that you can use any type of cookie that crushes into a fine powder. The mint oreo cookies work great. You can use vanilla sandwhich cookies if you are not a big chocolate person. They are excellant and very easy to make.

I tried using peanut butter "Nutter Butter" cookies, but couldn't get the consistency right. They tasted great, especially when dipped in dark chocolate, but they were a bit on the dry side. I have to keep working at it.

I think we had these at a potluck at our office on Monday. We were trying to figure out what they were. Now reading how they are made, I am pretty sure they were oreo truffles. They were SOOOO good.

What NO Recipies?????????:confused3

This place is going Downhill fast!:snooty:

;)

Recipe......

39 Oreo cookies ground into a fine powder

8 oz. of room temperature cream cheese.

Mix together and form into small balls.

Chill for at least 30 minutes.

Then dip into melted chocolate....any kind you like. I generally do some with dark chocolate and some with white.

You can mix in various flavoring extracts and top the truffles with sprinkles, more crushed oreo, crushed candy, coconut....anything you want. They lend themselves to adding flavorings, as so many flavors go with chocolate.

As Feralpeg mentioned you can also use different kinds of cookies....but if they are larger than oreos, you may need to adjust the number of cookies you use to get the proper soft texture that these truffles have.

Enjoy!!

These are so good. My tip is not to make them too big as they are quite rich.

I never thought to put crushed candy canes on top of them....I am going to try that!

Put a drop of peppermint extract in your truffle mixture for even more mint flavor. The mint makes them SO good.

For a softer mint topping....Andes makes a peppermint crunch crumble that is more chocolate like in texture and also works great on top of the truffles.

Can you tell that I make these alot????? It is one of my biggest requests for parties and lunches at work.

How would you recommend grounding the oreos down? Thanks!

I made those a few years ago for a goodie exchange. They were a huge success and soooooooooo delicious!

I'm going to make these, never heard of them! They sound like a nice addition to add to my cookie trays. Thanks!:)

I throw them in a ziploc and give them to my 2 year old to crush :) . When he is done with them I lay the bag on the counter and use the flat side of my meat pounder thingie. I know a lot of people use a food processor, but I don't have one.

Do you dip these in milk chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate? Which one would taste better with the plain Oreos? I'm guessing that it would be milk chocolate, but I want to make sure before I buy the ingredients.

Also, do you store these in the fridge because of the cream cheese? I imagine they aren't going to last too long aound here :rolleyes1 , but if I make them I do want to set some aside for later.

We dip them in semi-sweet chocolate. YUM!! I agree that they taste a lot more ...complicated than they are.

I would say, get the best chocolate you can buy.

I had seen sooo much hype, in so many threads/posts on how great these were, that I was really expecting something fabulous. Maybe I'm too much of a Godiva truffle snob, :snooty: but I wasn't too impressed when I finally made these. :confused3 Basically, they just tasted like...well, oreos & cream cheese. :confused3 I was expecting something more - and I made them twice, just to be sure. Maybe if I had added in all those extra ingredients LJC1861 posted about in post #9, or extra expensive ingredients to cover up the oreos & cream cheese taste, they might have turned out to be something more. But, if I want to really hit my sinful chocolate spot cheaply, I'll stick to making fudge with Marshmallow Fluff.

Do they need to stay refrigerated after they're made? Or can they be stored at room temp?

Great. I don't have a food processor either but we'll just crush ourselves. Thanks.

Thanks for the post!

I just found this recipe last night, but set it aside thinking it would be too difficult/time-comsuming but now I'm going to try it! I need to make 50 dozen cookies for work (about 16-17 dozen each of three different kinds) and I've chosen two recipes and needed a third.

How many oreos will I need to make 16 dozen?

Or maybe a better question is - how many does the original recipe make? I can figure the rest out from there. :goodvibes

Unless...they DO require refrigeration after they are made, and if that's the case, maybe I'd better head back over to the "cookies from cake mix" thread :thumbsup2

I would still make them for my family, but I don't have a way to refrigerate 16 dozen of them at work.

I usually leave them in the freezer until the day I am ready to serve. Then I put them in the fridge to soften up a bit. I only leave them out to serve 1 hour-2 hour tops before back in the fidge.

Unless you have refrigeration or will eat them within 2 hours I wouldn't include these in any exchanges or cookie platters.
