Oreo Truffles - question for anyone who has made these.

Well, I made these and the nutter butter ones for DH to take to work. The Oreo ones were demolished very quickly, while there are still some nutter butter ones left. Which is fine by me, b/c I prefer the nutter butter ones :thumbsup2

BTW: I didn't have any problems with dipping. I used Bakers semi-sweet baking squares that I melted with the bit of shortening per a suggestion on here. Went on very smooth and tasted wonderful. Not that I still didn't drip chocolate everywhere, and let me tell you what a hardship it was to afterwards have to suck all that chocolate off my fingers. Oh the sacrifice!

Slightly OT, but I had run out of the Baker's dipping chocolate in a cup, so I stored the leftover truffles in the fridge until I could buy more. The store I went to didn't have any, so I bought the milk chocolate chips and shortening and went that route. I only had about a dozen more truffles to dip, and had leftover chocolate. Hmmmm...what to do with it??:rotfl: I then remember the $3.50 box of Fudge dipped Ritz crackers I saw at the store and it occurred to me:idea: that I could make these myself!! I used the leftover chocolate to dip the Ritz, and OMG, they are SOOOO good!!! (btw, I've had the store bought fudge dipped Ritz already, and they are amazing, but extremely pricey for the dozen and a half or so you get in the box!)

So how many packages has everyone made. I've used 10 pks of oreos so far. I sure hope I don't have to make anymore!

Wow! I bought one pack of oreos and someone ate half the bag during the night so I could only make half a batch!

If you use the mint chocolate chips and then dip the ritz crackers you will have a VERY close treat to a thin mint girl scout cookie.. I'm just sayin'

I've been making Oreo Balls for years as well, and the family loves them. However, I just wanted to add that the fam really prefers them with a bit of texture, so if you haven't tried them with texture yet, do it. IMO, they are are far superior.
I take the oreos and pulse them in my baby cuisinart like you are grinding nuts. Don't pulverize them. Then when all the oreos are done I actualy use beaters to mix in the cream cheese.. with putting it in the processor , its easier but then its all pulverized and turns kind of a sick grey color. Its still good but almost fudgey when you bite into it. The ones with texture stay a nice oreo color and when you bite into them there is just a bit of texture to them so they are not fudgey or goopy.

This method also works better for us as we prefer them au naturel, undipped. That way you get the full flavor of the c cheese and oreo.. these treats are yumm-o!

A treat my family loves during the holidays is, chocolate coated RITZ cracker, peanut butter sandwiches.
Just take 2 RITZ, put some smooth peanut butter in the middle and make a sandwich, and dip in chocolate and chill.
These are cheap and easy to make. The kids love to make them for their Grandparents. You can also do this using the pre-made peanut butter RITZ bits sandwiches, but I don't think they taste as good. They don't taste as fresh, as making them yourself, and their not as cheap either.

My friend was telling me to use a container that is small and deep so that you can stab your ball with a toothpick and dunk, rather than roll in the melted chocolate.

Now I'm wondering how everybody does their melted almond bark covered pretzels. I can never get mine thick enough on the pretzel. I dip and roll each individually. Should I just dump a whole bunch in and pull them out in groups rather than individually? I like a LOT of bark. If vegetables could be coated in melted almond bark, I'd eat them at every meal:laughing:

:lmao: Yeah, I could do that with chocolate. Dip it & I'll probably eat it...

Thanks for the tip, I'll try that. I need to make some pretty ones for a cookie exchange. If we're at home, I just slather choc over them & they're gone before they have a chance to look nice!

I have also had some of those PB ritz dipped ones - girl at work used to make them - YUM! She made another variety too but can't remember what the cracker/filling combo was.

Yeah, whenever I make these I always have pretzel crackers or ritz on hand to dip in the leftover chocolate. Yum!

I can't help but laugh. I have 4 packages sitting in my kitchen right now. My oldest (home from school sick) asked if she could have one. I told her no since I'd have to buy more packages since I'd eat them all.

So how many does one package of Oreos make? I am trying to decide if I should suffer & buy more Oreos.

I have never made these before, but was inspired by this thread. I made a double batch last night for a party tonight. It was much, much easier than I thought it would be. They turned out great.

Thanks everyone for the tips.

Made both oreo and nutter butter today. OMG how easy. I had one of the nutter butter ones, just awesome.

So, silly me, went to the store and got the ingredients from memory. Not too hard, since it's only a few ingredients, right? :rolleyes1

So I've ended up with semi-sweet baker's chocolate. The thing that comes in a big bar. Has anyone made these with that before? Or will it end up being a bit too rich with the semi-sweet?

ooh, point me to the nutter butter recipe....is in this thread????

I made these last week for a party tomorrow.

We ate ALL of them. First time I ever made them...my friend was super impressed, said they looked professional. :rotfl2:

Trying to make these now for the first time for a party tonight and I am having to fight my kids off and I haven't even added the chocolate to the outside yet!:rotfl2: They are addicting!!! It is supposed to snow 10-18 inches here today and all the neighbors just cleaned my driveway, sidewalks, and front porch for us because my husband had to go to work and he works outdoors. I guess they feel bad for him. I had borrowed the food processor from next door neighbor and she told everyone what I'm inside making. NOW I'm gonna have to make more to give to all of my very sweet neighbors for helping us out today. Thanks for the recipe!!

Snowing here today and we are getting ready to make these as well! How many of you add the vanilla extract. Two different recipes are listed and don't know which one to use! Thanks!
