Oreo Truffles - question for anyone who has made these.

I tried to find the ABC pretzels at World Market yesterday and didn't see them.

Maggie
Do you have a Wegman's out in your area? Wegman's sells ABC pretzels. The brand is Snack Favorites and are packed for Mayfair Sales Inc. out of Buffalo NY. (I buy the ABC pretzels for my preschool class!)

I made the oreo ones last year and a co worker fondly named them "death balls"! He said the only thing that would make them better would be adding liquor.

Anyone try that? Obvioulsy I would keep them seperate from the general consumption cookies!

What type of liquor would I use? how much?

I don't know how much you'd use, but I've heard of people using: coconut rum, kahlua, raspberry vodka/rum, amaretto, creme de menthe

My Mom just gave me some Strawberry Milkshake Oreos...I wonder how they'd taste???

I am so glad I am done shopping for the day.

Just by reading this thread, I have gained more weight then I desire.

So I am going to make ones with double stuff, mint ones & the candy cane Oreos (I am not crazy they do have them, right?).

My son is allergic to dairy (peanuts, tree nuts, egg whites too) so I never thought I could make these but I can since I use his dairy free (tofutti) cream cheese and he can eat Oreo's. Oh & I have made stuff with his cream cheese before & people never noticed.

And I do use Ghiradelli semi sweet chips to dip since they are dairy free as well. I used to use Dove milk chocolate (on strawberries...yummmmmm) but I can't since they have milk. They melt just fine for me but then again I have been melting for a few years now.

I know trader joes has candy cane type oreos.

We didn't have wax paper the other day and we just put them on a cookie tray on grease or whatever then popped them in the fridge....after they cooled they popped off no problem

I really want to try these! Thanks!

OP here,

We had sucess, and handed out the truffles to Cullen's nursery school teachers today.

Cullen was very helpful he did all the processing of the truffles, took the rolled balls from me and put them on the tray.

I did the the chocolate dipping though.

We had a small problem with the first batch, I put them in the garage to cool down and discovered we have a mouse in the garage who really enjoyed his oreo truffles, so that batch went in the bin and we started again.

So thanks for all the tips everyone. Now I will have to do another batch for our Christmas. I think I will take a box over to my American Neighbour/Friend.

Thanks again everyone and Merry Christmas
Kirsten

I just finished mine they are in fridge setting just need to drizzle white chocolate over them. They are going to school tomorrow with chocolate chip cookies,a Christmas book, and a $5 gift card to Dunkin Donuts as a teachers gift. I'm hoping thats a suitable choice its my first year for teachers gifts.

Btw has anyone ever had the store bought Oreo brownies? The mix before being dipped tastes just like it. Anyone ever done anything else with the mix brownies, pie crust? Does it work for anything else?

My dd is allergic to peanuts and I never use Ghiradelli chips. I'm pretty certain they have a peanut/tree nut warning. I only use Hershey's brand but I'm not sure about dairy.

Ohhh, I've never tried adding extract, will add that to the list for this year!

FOr those without a food processor - I have double bagged them in ziplocs and let my kids go to town pounding them. Then I just throw the block of cream cheese in the bag & mush it all up. They don't come out quite as fine but still very yummy!

How do others dip theirs? I can't seem to get that part down easily. Sometimes I use a fork but then get fork marks in them. Or I just drizzle the chocolate on top if they're not gifts but I want to make some pretty ones for DD's Scout cookie exchange.

Me either! My family doesn't care what they look like but I would like to make some "pretty" ones:laughing:

I made two batches last night -- had to run back to the store this morning to get another container of Baker's melting chocolate (in the microwave cup) since I was about a dozen balls short of dipping! DD4 topped all the truffles with holiday sprinkles/nonpariels.

We brought four boxes (went to a paper supply store and got candy boxes)of the "truffles" to my DDs preschool today. We also do a large class gift of gift certificates, but I like to send in something made by us. As a former teacher, I miss all the homemade treats!!

Happy Holidays everyone!

My friend was telling me to use a container that is small and deep so that you can stab your ball with a toothpick and dunk, rather than roll in the melted chocolate.

Now I'm wondering how everybody does their melted almond bark covered pretzels. I can never get mine thick enough on the pretzel. I dip and roll each individually. Should I just dump a whole bunch in and pull them out in groups rather than individually? I like a LOT of bark. If vegetables could be coated in melted almond bark, I'd eat them at every meal:laughing:

I finally got to make these today! They were a hit!:cloud9:

I covered them in semi-sweet belgian chocolate and spinkled them with pieces of candy cane.

I'll try to post pictures if I can.

You can dip them in 1 bag of choc. chips melted in the microwave with 1 tablespoon of shortening...that will make the chocolate smoother! HTH!

If I don't have shortening (I'm assuming that means stuff like Crisco), would butter/margarine or oil work?

By the way, I did the salted pretzel with a Hershey's Kiss on top and then an M&M on top after the kiss has melted, last night and it was so easy (other than being a bit time consuming to unwrap so many kisses!)

Thanks,
Helen

Oreos makes them & I bought 2 packages. Thanks.

My dd is allergic to peanuts and I never use Ghiradelli chips. I'm pretty certain they have a peanut/tree nut warning. I only use Hershey's brand but I'm not sure about dairy.

They do have the warning but I do give him things with the warning on it & those I know he has been OK with. His peanut allergy is the mild one (he is at about 8 or 10 right now on blood work & under 2 is normal). His dairy one is still up in the 30's (again under 2 is normal) & it used to be up over 100.

I am limited as to what I can use for him. I used to use Stop & Shop store brand chips but they now contain milk.

Oh & the oreos are right next to me calling my name for me to open & just try one. But if I do that I will be back at the store buying more packages.

I put the oreos in an old cereal bag - it had honey nut cheerios in them originally, I just cleaned it out and reused it - to crush the oreos with a rolling pin. It worked well. Then I used my mixer to blend with the cream cheese.

Also, I used reduced fat oreos and reduced fat cream cheese. I dipped them in dark chocolate then drizzled white chocolate on top.
It makes me feel less guilty eating them when I use reduced fat ingredients - lol.
