I noticed that a menu item from San Angel Inn (the only thing I'll eat there) was taken off the menu! :confused3 I LOVE this place because of the atmosphere and was hoping that perhaps if I ask nicely they may still be able to make it for me. It's a very simple dish. Has anyone every asked for something NOT on a menu or that was previously on a menu but taken off? Not just San Angel, anywhere in WDW?

You could always ask but I don't know if you'd get the kind of gracious and warm response that you might expect at a fine dining restaurant where they'll bend over backwards for you because you're paying a premium to dine there (plus they usually have more diverse chefs, kitchen inventories, etc.). At a basic resort restaurant like this one, it might throw them too far off their game but I say go ahead & ask...the worst they can say is no, right?

Have you considered trying something new? Ask the server for a recommendation of something similar to what you liked. You never know...you might find something you love!

Everytime we eat there my husband has them make his order special and the do it everytime. My guess is you had a taco or buritto style meal since thats mostly what they have, so Im sure they will do what ever they can to make it the way you want it. If its something else just ask it never hurts to ask. Again I don't think you will have a problem.

I've usually get a basic tempura roll at the California Grill. It isn't on the menu but the usually let us have it anyway.

You can always call the restaurant directly (or ask to be connected through disney dining) and see what they can do. That way you also give them a heads up on your situation.

I asked at Le Cellier, I wanted something off the lunch menu, and they said they didn't even have the ingredients for the lunch menu at dinner time! YMMV!

:wave: Hi ya'll;

I know at Fulton's you can ask for special request and you can order something that isn't offered on the menu. We did in Nov 03 and our IP has or will submit our special request for our anniversary dinner in Nov. :thumbsup2

Good luck ! I'm sure they'll accomodate.

I was curious about this...I loved the blueberry bliss dessert at California Grill last year but I doubt it will be on the menu again but oh I wish it was! It was the best dessert I ever had in my life!

We ate at San Angel in May for dinner. I asked if I could get the chicken nacho's which are on their lunch menu. Our server was cold and not very "Disney" friendly and just said "No" and moved on to the next person at our table ordering. He came back to me when everyone else was done and I just ordered something off the dinner menu.

I also had told them it was my friend's birthday when I made the reservation, at the check-in desk and told our server PLUS she was wearing a birthday crown and every Disney birthday pin there is (we had been to all 4 parks that day and did all of her "favorite" attractions all day). This was supposed to be the fun ending to a really magical birthday for her and unfortunately our server didn't even acknowledge her birthday (didn't even say Happy Birthday) and our dinner took almost 3 hours as the service was SO slow, so we even missed Illuminations. My friend took it all in stride, but I was very disappointed in this restaurant!

I haven't heard anything good about San Angel in general and am really bummed I am going to be "forced" to eat there this trip.

At Flying Fish, they have a battered fish and chips on the children's menu. My DD7 wanted her fish grilled w/ butter and lemon w/ mashed potatoes on the side. No problem. The better places will try to accommodate you.

Most restaurants will accomodate you, IF THEY CAN. The better restaurants cook the food to order and are able to accomodate requests such as the one you made at the Flying Fish. The lesser restaurants may have the food prepared in advance with a "cook" merely heating the food. It's not that those restaurant won't accomodate you because they're mean but rather they're not capable of accomodating you.

Other people posted that some restaurants don't even have the lunch items in their restuarant at dinner time.

Desserts are usually made in advance. I have a friend who worked as a pastry chef and her workday was 5am to 3pm - she'd been gone for two hours before the restaurant opened for dinner. She'd leave all the desserts in the fridge with notes to the sous chef for preperation and presentation.

They MAY be able to accomodate you if you call ahead, but there is little chance a dessert will be able to be made on the fly.

(Flying Fish apparently gets a zillion requests for the banana napoleon that used to be on the menu - but they don't make it).

My daughter didn't see anything she wanted on the menu at the Brown Derby and asked if she could get a hamburger, which was no problem. BTW, one of the best meals we've had at WDW. :thumbsup2

Yea honestly I doubt I would ever actually ask anyone in a restaurant. I am the type of person that I don't like to have people go out of their way for me. If it was a situation where they still made certain things "on request" then I might ask...otherwise I'll stick to what's on the menu.

Exactly why I like to eat in higher end places. I really hate re-heated food. :crazy2:

One thing to keep in mind with CA Grill, especially with desserts that feature fresh produce, they may not be able to ensure a quality product if they cannot get the quality of produce they think they need for the dish.

Having said that, I wonder if I can order Steak Can be Sushi if it's not on the menu. It's wonderful and I like to think they have a decent supply of good beef on hand.

I have at palios. they have veal marasala on the menu, but not chicken marsala (at least the last time I was there). I asked to have chicken marsala instead and there was no problem.

Le Cellier used to do a fantastic lunch special that we'd have made for us for dinner. We were told that they require 24 hours notice on special requests.

We've also had CG make a special dessert for us, and we called them a week ahead. They had no problem accommodating us.

Good luck!

Back before Cindy's became "all princesses, all day and all night". Dh and I were able to order a special meal. I told them I didn't see anything on the menu that I really liked. The waitress suggested something else which sounded wonderful, so good that DH ordered it too!
We really wanted to eat there and we were prepared for desserts only but because the waitress sprinkled some pixie dust pixiedust: we had a great meal, with a great view (window seat overlooking the carousel) and a great end to our last night!
