I am trying to read the JD Robb In Death series in order and can't seem to find some of the them at my local used book store. I don't want to pay full price and am content to read a used book. I have found them on Amazon and was curious if anyone has ordered used books through them and what was your experience since the books are coming from another vendor.

We have ordered several things through Amazons used site and haven't had any problems with them at all. The condition is good, arrived in a timely manner, etc.

yes, i've done this a lot, and have had no problems. :)

I read 2 books out of that series. They were good! Now I'm wondering how many more there are. Hmmm. I'll have to look into that.

I got mine from the library.

ETA- I have bought and sold books on Amazon. I haven't had a bad experience with them. I would use them again.

..I've ordered books for my DS for college SEVERAL times with no problems...however, one of the books was coming from another source, and that one took FOREVER to arrive....

I buy used books thru Amazon all the time ...

Positive: Price and shipping are usually very attractive

Negative: Since things are usually shipped "media mail" they can take a long time to arrive. I will usually try to find a vendor in a neighboring state or on the same side of the Mississippi, that way it may get to me faster.

The other negative is that many vendors just have a standard blurb about condition so remember it IS a used book and will be in used condition ...

I have also had good luck on half.com and even ebay. With those vendors you can ask more questions about condition.

I haven't ordered used books from Amazon, but have read that people have varying experiences. Some sellers will purposely exagerate the condition of the book and won't give refunds. In the end, like with eBay, you have to check a person's feedback carefully - that includes actually reading what the negative feedbacks say, so you understand what could potentially happen to you if something goes wrong. You don't want to be the next negative feedback, essentially saying the same thing.

J.D. Robb's series are of my all time favorites. She publishes two books a year in this series, plus, sometimes a shorter story in a collection with other authors. Here is a list of the: In Death books in order with the shorter stories included.

Imzadi, you are always such a help! Thanks for the list! :)

I've ordered on Amazon and half.com both.. If I'm ordering more than one book though, I have found half.com to be cheaper if I can get 2 or more books from the same seller..

I wouldn't hesitate to use either..:thumbsup2

I hate to take money from the company that gives us our paycheck, but have you looked at your library?

I have purchased used books and DVDs several times, both in the US and UK. I only had a problem once - the seller disappeared without sending the item. Amazon's customer service was awesome - I simply notified them of the issue, and after a couple days while they investigated, I received a full refund.

As with eBay, check the feedback of the seller. In the case of the seller disappearing, they had no negative feedback until several days after I ordered, when lots started appearing!

I think she's earned a promotion to Captain by now, don't ya think?

They don't have the earlier books by a particular author that I am interested in and the local used book store only has some of them. I'd order through the book store but it would cost more than doing it myself.

I wish. I'm just waiting for the promotion I swear. I'm so addicted to Eve Dallas its terrible. :rotfl:

But then, Eve & Roarke would have to obey some rules. :p Plus, that would put her behind a desk & turn her a paper pusher. :surfweb: I don't see Eve settling for that.

Oh I already thought of that...see my thinking is that she'll just investigate of the books....unless of course she's dragged in:lmao:

I'm waiting for when Eve & Roarke finally have a baby and Summerset is the one at home taking care of it. :rotfl:
