Ordering a SD Memory Card (update question Post #10)

I am not an expert like you all, but I thought I would ask the Experts!
I have a Kodak ....I have a 128 Memory card.
I want to buy an additional Memory Card.....I see on the Kodak website a 512 card goes for about $54.95. I then went to amazon.com and see one Amazon.com
for : Kingston 512 MB Secure digital card. for ONLY 10.99(reg. 39.99) !
Is this too good to be true? Must I go witht he compatible Kodak brand or may I venture out to others?........\

Go to buy.com Kingston 1 gig SD card is $27.95 with free shipping and there is also a rebate available that brings the price down to 19.95. That is about $3 less than I got mine for a few months back at the same place.

I doesn't matter which name you use so long as it is a SD card. I have a Nikon and have 3 1 gig cards, SanDisk, Viking and Kingston. For my Canon P&S digital I have 2 CF cards a SanDisk and a Viking.

It does not have to be Kodak branded, but when ordering from amazon you are not always ordering from amazon and they have some less than great resellers.

Just buy from a reputable dealer on Amazon or other Etailer and you should be fine.

So any brand will be fine. I just want to take pictures and have enough memory when I am unable to download during a trip............

Some have never had a problem with any brand, others have had problems with the no name brands.
More reliable or "popular" names are sandisk, kingston and a few others that I can not remember now..
Also check www.pricegrabber.com for up to the moment searches on prices. I will usualy sort the list of results by price then scroll down the list until I see a reliable dealer.

I've used Lexar, Sandisk, PNY, PQI, and Kingston. The only one I've had continuous problem is Lexar. They tend not to play nice with Canon Rebel, 20D (mostly 20D), and 30D.

Last time I checked, meritline.com had the PNY and the Ridata 1GB high speed cards from $24-$26. I've got several of both and have had no trouble with either one. I personally have had trouble with the SanDisks (two different cards), but not with the PNY's, Ridatas, Kingston, or Kodak brand (I've got a melting pot of cards)!

circuitcity.com had some super deals if you're willing to do rebates. I also have a Kodak and have SanDisk and Kingston...haven't done much with either yet, but both worked right off the bat.

Another question: What are your opinons of an Ultra disk?

Again, I am your average digital camera user..... I go somewhere, click, look at the photo and on to the next photo. But then again, new and better always seem more fun!

No it is not the same quality as an Ultra, but IMO your camera "Kodak 3mp" will not come anywhere near maxxing out the speed of either. If you had a newer DSLR and shot lots of bursts you might notice a difference between a faster card and a slower card, but not on a point and shoot 3mp camera. Depending on your card reader, you may or may not notice the speed difference while downloading images to your pc.

My guess that on a 2gb card your camera should get about 2000 images(minimum).

At this time, yes that would be my opinion. There is really no need to pay for higher end media with your current setup.

Just a side note...If you get one large card and something happens to it, you've lost every single picture you've taken. Me personally (and I know others don't agree, but I'm paranoid about such things because I've had a card crash (two in fact-and one that wasn't saveable by photorescue)), I'd much prefer to get a bunch of smaller cards and swap out. I've got 3 1-GB, 3-512MB, 2-256MB, and 1-128MB. Most don't like to carry that many cards around, but they really don't take up a lot of space and it's worth it for the peace of mind for me.

As I stated many times, I personally use multiples of 512 Mb cards... and I'm using 8 MP camera (only about 110 pics per card)... just in case.
