Orbitz users - hold my hand a bit

How strange. Guess I just got lucky. Or maybe it doesn't charge for 1 but does for more than 1? Best guess I have

ETA - I just went back and checked again, I get the same exact rate for 2 adults as I do for 2 adults and 1 7yo child. Don't know that age would make a difference but figured I'd include it just in case it does.

If it was a villa (DVC) resort or a campsite that would explain it. They don't have a fee for extra adults after the first 2.

Interesting! Maybe there's another scenario that doesn't trigger the extra charge. Can you share the resort name and the dates you were looking at?

When I booked and found no charge for a child I was booking a Disneyland resort in May, near Memorial Day
So I have been playing around a bit more this morning.
Seems only the Disney World resorts in FL trigger a charge for kids.
Other Orlando area hotels do not (at least the ones I tested it with), nor do the Disney owned resorts in CA.

Yes, that's right - Disneyland doesn't charge extra for more adults. And most Orlando hotels either charge extra for everyone over the first 2 (children as well) or don't charge extra for more people up to the room limit.

Universal Orlando's onsite hotels have the same thing where they charge for extra adults over 2, but not children. However, with Universal it's not super important to get that right in advance. As long as the room is big enough, you can add the kids at check-in.

Quick question....I entered my Orbitz 6 digit confirmation number when I filled out the DME form. It hasn't showed on the my Disney experience site yet and curious if it will do so.

I am slightly nervous because I originally booked AKL through Disney when the new promo came out and the CM said that entered in the new DME information for me, but I haven't received anything yet. And I did it again when I booked AKL through Orbitz. I want to make sure that we get the correct tags and are able to tell which is right one should we get both.

I just wanted to say that my luggage tags for the Magical Express arrived today for our May trip so I know everything is set even though it doesn't show in MDE. I think it's hit or miss on whether it shows up there. The luggage tags also have the 12 digit confirmation number that starts with 4**** that everyone seems to want so they can book the BOG lunch fast pass.

Ah, that's clear as mud. I had always assumed it meant Orbitz always charges for kids for all stays booked with them. When I tested our booking in May and found out it didn't I thought they'd fixed it. When you enter additional people on Orbitz you can tell the system it's a child and enter the child's age. I guess the other resorts I tested booking in Orlando were ones that are set to not charge for people up to the room limit.

Wonder why the Disneyland resorts don't charge for the kids but the Disneyworld ones do?

I've wondered the same thing. Might have something to do with California vs. Florida lodging laws. But there are other things that are pretty radically different between Disneyland and Walt Disney World. They are run fairly independently and are allowed to set their own policies for a lot of stuff. So it might just be that the management of Disneyland resorts feel that charging extra for more than 2 wouldn't be received well, or that it would put them at a disadvantage vs. the offsite hotels (a lot of which are super close).

How far out are these deals good for?

I currently have CBR booked July 3-7. POR booked July 7-12. Paying rack rate.

On the Orbitz site, I'm finding rack rate only as well.

I posted this in the Orbitz thread in Disney Resorts, but want to add it here, too.

Yesterday evening I used GETHAPPY for 15% off (on top of the Disney Spring deal).

I already have a res. through Disney, but I found that I could get Bunk Beds + a queen at WL for less than the two queen beds I currently have. With my kids, I think this will be helpful and worth going through this change.

Today, I started an online chat with Orbitz using this link: https://faq.orbitz.com/app/chat/chat_launch
(Thanks to Kastoney for the link.)

Once the chat started I used the following text - with natural breaks for the respresentative's response, of course - to add my kids (thanks to Mudd77 from the other thread). I also asked them to add DH's name as the second adult. It was easy and fast.

"I booked a Disney World resort on Orbitz yesterday evening and I need some further assistance.
My Orbitz reservation number is PBORB-XXX-XXX-XXXX. The hotel confirmation number is XXXXX.
I understand that I need an Orbitz representative to contact Disney on my behalf to add two children to my reservation at Disney's “RESORT NAME” and I would also like to have my husband’s name listed as the second adult.
The first child is: First Last, who will be X years old at time of check in at the hotel.
The second child is: First Last, who will be X years old at time of check in at the hotel.
The second adult’s name is: First Last"

I asked about the 12 digit confirmation number starting with "4" and the representative said that Orbitz hadn't yet received it from Disney. He said that I should receive an email once they have it. ::Update --> I received an email from Disney Destinations the next day with the 12 digit confirmation number.

Part 2: Adding Orbitz reservation to MDE:
I went in to MDE and added my Orbitz hotel reservation using the Orbitz 6 digit hotel confirmation number. All my people's names are showing up correctly. I now have two hotel reservations on MDE; Disney's and Orbitz's.

Part 3: Removing the Disney reservation:
This was also easy. I called Disney and gave them the Disney hotel confirmation number I wanted canceled. It took just a few minutes. I reloaded MDE and only saw the Orbitz reservation.

All my ADRs are intact.

Success!

Their pricing matches the Disney site. If all Disney has for that time is rack rate that is all Orbitz has also. They will also sometimes have a added percent off, such as the current Gethappy one. Those also have stay date limits too. You can find them on the fine print for the promo.

So if pricing is the same as Disney, what's the advantage of booking through them?

They have 15% off codes, on TOP of the disney discount. I used GETHAPPY last night.

Plus, Ebates has 1% cash back on pre-paid hotel rooms right now. Other cash back opportunities may exist, but I don't know them.

You also can get Orbucks. I got enough Orbucks from my order last night to pay for the night at the hotel we are staying at during our drive to WDW.

The other advantage of booking through Orbitz is that they sometimes have availability when Disney doesn't. There aren't any rooms at all for the Beach Club for our dates through Disney, even at full price. So I ended up booking through Orbitz and had no trouble at all getting exactly what I wanted at the Beach Club.

I chatted with orbitz yesterday afternoon to have my 3 kids added to our Orleans reservation. I logged into MDE, and the reservation only shows 2 kids. Should I contact orbitz or disney?

Hmm, maybe someone else who has had this happen can chime in, but, I'd contact Orbitz tell them that the Disney reservation isn't showing the third child and ask them to call Disney to let them know the situation and work through resolving it. I've read on the threads that Disney's IT is pretty good about fixing certain issues and so if the call / chat with Orbitz (with them working with Disney) doesn't fix the MDE site issue I would then try to get a call directly with Disney's IT.

Since I saw this discussed in previous posts; I just booked through Orbitz and included my children and was NOT charged an additional $50. I wonder if its age specific as they are 4 and 4 months? In any case, I saved $150 and I even had a PIN code with Disney!

Was it at Disneyland, a campsite, or a DVC resort? Is it just one adult, one child, and one baby (because that would count as two)? If not any of those things, can you share your resort and dates?

2 adults, 2 children, Polynesian April 17th - 20th.
