If you had the option between for a family of 4 — kids will be 7 & 17 *this is a holdiay trip in December & also the kids 1st trip and a special one*

— 3 day trip VIP tour 1 day LLP & 1 day LLMP
— 5-6 day trip LLMP

Which way would you go?
Or another?

I'd do 5-6 days because I always like more park time. Plus with that many days you can have a break day or a couple of sleep-in days. You'll also have more opportunities for night time entertainment and ADRs.

What is the intent of your trip? What will the VIP tour give you that 2-3 additional days in the parks (and with your family) will not?

Extra days option. Enjoy the most time to explore and enjoy the parks. Look into taking a guided tour like: A Story of Celebration…(or a World of Color dessert party). Save the expense and be your own VIP tour guide. Ultimately do what fits your own budget and desires but given those choices..more days.

I will say- my teenagers top out at 2-3 days. Is your older child interested in that many days?

I have kids with a large age span too and a long trip gets challenging keeping everyone happy (kids currently 9, 17, 19).

But we sre also west coast and come once rt twice a year, so it’s not that novel for the big kids.
