I don't ususally even make requests- but I just wanted to put a word in for the North Section (near the splash pool) and non smoking. I got the nastiest person on the phone who told me that they only take requests from owners and "how did you get this number anyway?" (I got it here on the Dis!) Basically, it's fine about the requests but I still wanted no smoking- she said "all resorts in Florida are non smoking!" I questioned this and asked for a "never been labeled as a smoking condo even before the new law was in effect unit" due to my sons asthma. She reiterated the no requests line to me in a very robotic way.

My question is- don't they want non owners to eventually BE owners someday? Whey would we when we are treated like this?!
Thanks for letting me vent.

I'm sorry to hear the response from the customer service person. There have been mixed reports about OLCC giving non-owners their requests. Itis difficult to fullfill requests as most want to be near the pools and there is only so many units that meet that critera. It sounds like you understand that but it doesn't excuse the customer service people from being rude. In January 2006, OLCC went to non-smoking for all units. I believe this decision was based on a 2003 Florida law. I don't know that all resorts are non-smoking though as this decision for OLCC was based on a vote that was conducted last year. It sounds like the customer service person was having a bad day. Imagine how he/she would feel if this was an item that was brought up to upper management (not the immediate management but the general manager of the resort); that attitude would change in a hurry. As an owner, I would suggest making the request to the general manger so that the tone could be changed for all. What upper management doesn't know about, it can't change.
