Optimistic October 2025 W.I.S.H. Thread

It’s Tuesday! What health/self care “thing” actually works for you?
Complete alone time! If I've "peopled" too much, I need recovery time, and the criteria for recovery time to be effective are:
  • I must not have respond to anyone (this means real people in my house or sounds my phone makes).
  • I am on my own timetable - I get to decide exactly when I start and stop things.
  • I control the volume of whatever I'm doing.

I love getting a massage but I don't get them too often. I tend to just chill on the couch and watch tv and play games on my phone.

The ortho told us yesterday that this break is the best case scenario because if it did not break the ligament would have snapped in half. She is in a cast now (her choice since she is not self disciplined enough to keep it on). 3.5 weeks of the cast and no driving.

OMG... I woke up thinking hurrah we made it to Wednesday, then realized it was just Tuesday, but here it is really Wednesday - Woohoo!

Woohoo I've started taking an earlier ferry to get some quiet time in the office before tings heat up and I like how it is working out. It means the morning commute is in the dark, but it is that time of year, and we've been having clear skies so the stars and moon are out, which is pretty cool.

I'm thankful that I thought to double check the weekend weather forecast, as it is now going to be very wet. Having checked this morning I had time to order appropriate things for this weekend's protest... mainly a brightly colored rain jacket (mine are all green which we're not supposed to wear for the human sign because we'll blend into the grass) and plastic sleeve covers for poster board so that my sign doesn't drip and melt. Looking forward to it and really hoping some inflatable flamingos show up.

The first part of Saturday will be taken up with the protest, then the rest of the day regular chores and errands. Sunday I'm thinking I'll go for a walk in the nature preserve, or do something else for some outdoors time. I'm trying to get better about doing restorative things and being outside would hit the mark.

Hello all. Thank you for the birthday wishes. So much has been going on both good and bad. Let’s get the bad over with and end on a positive note.

The bad: My violent student has turned my classroom upside down. He only sits down to eat. Otherwise he’s pacing around my room threatening my students and myself. He is frighteningly aggressive and destructive. I have to keep everything on high shelves to protect the beautiful materials that I have bought with my own money, from him. He’s already destroyed some expensive items. My students are suffering because they are not safe and we must evacuate the classroom often. In the effort to protect them, I have had to block them and he’s punched and kicked me leaving bruises. Their instruction is constantly interrupted by his outrageous behavior, and the play centers are very limited. I can’t set up anything elaborate because he will destroy it. He was pounding so hard on my promethian board on Friday that I thought it was going to fall off of the wall. We have had two PPT meetings and all they tell me is: “collect more data.” I have enough to publish a book. The other day, a woman from Rhode Island was killed by a kid who kicked her in the chest. Houston, we have a problem.

The good: DD’s boyfriend arrived from London on October 1st. HE IS DIVINE. The day after he arrived, he cooked me a roast beef with Yorkshire Pudding for my birthday. We talked and laughed the entire day and evening. They went to Cape Cod for a romantic weekend and the following week consisted of preparing for their friends’ wedding. DD was their maid of honor and he was their best man. We had a wonderful time at the wedding. He stayed with us for two weeks, and when he had to leave, we all cried.

I promise to try to pop in more often. Hopefully things will calm down in November. I will host the week of Thanksgiving since I know that my troubles at school won’t affect my ability to post. I appreciate you all being patient with me during this incredibly stressful period of my life.
