Oprah's 12wk Boot camp??

I have not been doing well on my challenge at all, however I seem to be making better choices and I am down to 180 pounds. I have really been struggling to get the exercise in, but hopefully this week will be better.

Christy

Congratulations to all of you who lost this week!!

Lisa, fab job!!

Yeah, I lost 1 lb this week. I didn't lose last week so I feels good this week. I haven't measured but I do feel the inches falling off I can tell because of my pants.

:goodvibes Have a great week!!!! I am off to drink my water

No loss for me this week either...that isnt fun when Im trying and not eating my favorite foods.

Oh well today is monday and a new week begins! :flower:

Great job everyone. I know it's hard to stay committed when the scale doesn't seem to be cooperating.

Spousal - I wanted to say that I don't think you should be discouraged. I wondered how all this exercise (especially the strength training with weights) was going to affect us. My weight loss was dramatic the first week (about 5.5 pounds), very low the second week (about 1/2 pound) and just okay for this past week (1 pound). Are you measuring? I'm sure we're building lean muscle mass which will weigh heavier on the scale.

Lisa - isn't losing a pound great? It is for me because I wasn't losing even that much per week before the challenge. Let's keep up the great work.

mshrm - please don't be discouraged. It is difficult and I know when I lost only 1/2 pound with 8 work outs the other week and giving up my whole grains, I wanted to stop but I know I've lost lots of inches. Have you measured? Tried fitting into smaller sized clothes? You might just be surprised!

Come on gang. Let's not give up on the program now. We can keep it going and see wonderful results. Sometimes the results are not scale-oriented but changes are occuring for our benefit. I just know it!

Thanks Lisa for the words of encouragement! No giving up here - I know I am doing the right things to get me where I want to be........quitting certainly won't get me there! :drinking: Off to drink more water! :drinking:

I weighed in today, and I lost 1 1/2 pounds in the first week, as well as an inch each off my waist and hips. I'm actually a bit surprised but not discouraged by the amount of weight I lost -- the scale was 2 pounds lower the day before. But I noshed down more salted peanuts yesterday than I probably should have, and I'm hopeful it was just a question of water retention.

I was looking forward to a good strong workout today, and what do I do? I smashed my finger in the refrigerator door -- owie! -- and was a bit afraid to do any work with hand weights. I made today my day off, and I'll hope my finger feels better tomorrow.

Lisa, congratulations on losing 7 pounds!! Whoa, size 8 -- that's got to be a feeling to savor!!

It's interesting to see how similar most people's progress has been -- for sure, there are some taut, strong muscles being built up there! I can hardly wait to see the final outcome for everyone -- I know we're all going to be completely thrilled!!

:sunny:

OK, OK I'm in but not this week as DH's birthday and Saturday and I'm planning on taking him out for dinner so I'm hoping Sunday. I'm headed over to Oprah's site now.

Hi everyone!

I did really bad last week. I think like alot of people I was a bit discouraged by the lack of loss (or I just went insane) I am going back to the gym today. It's amazing how hard it is to get in the habit of exercise and how easy it is to get out of it. I have regained my sanity and my eating was much better yesterday and today.

Hi gang! I did my 2 workouts at one time last night for a total of 2 hours! I was pooped!!! LOL The scales have only moved down about 3 1/2 lbs since I started the boot camp two weeks ago, but I do feel smaller. :cool1: I've also been trying on clothes that were too small last summer and they fit! I think now that a size 10 is definitely possible by my May 28th cruise.

We can do it!! We just need to stick to the program and try harder. As Emeril says, "Kick it up a knotch!!" ;)

thotfulspot, congrats on the weight loss!!! :cheer2:

Spoisal: Bob Greene's book was very motivational. I have read it cover to cover. It is called 12 weeks to a total body makover. It is his newest book. It has a woman on the cover with her holding out her big pair of jeans. I have typed out some of his motivational words and have them hung up in the bathroom, kitchen and my bedroom. I will do this for 12 weeks...even if it kills me. :goodvibes
Zeraspride: You go with that weight loss! So proud of U!
AuntieM03: Glad to see you are back on track...don't beat yourself up about it...just get going again. Good for you! :cheer2:
As for me, I don't weigh until Thursday so I don't know if I lost anything this past week. I'll let you know when I weigh. The workouts are going really well, though. Today at the gym some young guy came over to give me some "pointers!" He was very "touchy feely"...in a good, pleasant way. I don't think I'll tell my spouse about that. :teeth:
Hope everyone's week continues to be excellent. Live Long & Strong!

Did you guys get Bob Greene's book? I'm curious as to what foods everyone is eating?

S&KsMom:

In Bob's book the only eating rules are as follows: 1. Have an eating cutoff time. (2 to 3 hours before bed) 2. Eat a nourishing breakfast. 3. Drink a minimum of six 8 ounce glasses of water every day. 4. Eliminate alcohol. 5. Make eating a conscious act. (Basically, you know what is good for you and you know what isn't good for you...make the right decision)

I am eating only whole grains (1 serving a day) along with my usual diet of protein, fuits and veggies. I eat 5 small servings of food a day. I have been eating this way for almost 2 years and have been very successful. The only thing I changed for the boot camp was I haven't been drinking any alcohol and I cut down the amount of whole grains I eat per day. And, of course, I am working my butt off in the gym (literally) :rotfl: Good luck!

Thanks for the info, I drink tons of water anyways and don't drink alcohol at all. I think what I need to do is get to the store on my own one day (without kids!) and really shop smart.

That is huge, no kids and no DH (sometimes he is as bad as the kids) :goodvibes

I am really seeing the results in my clothes more so than the scale.. The exercize piece reall has made the significant difference!

Today was my weigh-in day and the first day of Week #4 for me. Well, I weighed and I have gained 4 Pounds. 4 Pounds???????? :sad2: Now I am staring out the window watching snow...YUCK!! I am sick of winter! Feeling so negative that I don't even want to go work out today. I will make myself go, but I really feel like what the heck is the point? Week #1 I lost 3 pounds, week #2 I lost 1 pound and week #3 I gained 4 pounds. I am totally freaking out today!!
I hope everyone else has a grand day and that I am able to snap out of this.

TinkerChelle, I'm so sorry you are feeling so blue. I've been there so many times. You really just have to have faith and keep plugging away. You've really done well and the 4 lbs is probably water weight. Give it a couple of days before you throw in the towel. I bet those 4 lbs will be gone. Good luck!

:grouphug: Tinkerchelle!! Hang in there -- you've been showing such True Grit! This is very simply a) water weight or b) killer muscle development! What does your tape measure tell you?

In any case, try pampering yourself in a non-food way to kick those winter blahs away -- a manicure, a pot of a special tea, a lovely hot steamy bubble bath, whatever will give your spirits a lift. Spring is on the way and so is a trimmer you!!

:sunny:

I made my work out yesterday and this morning...so I am still plugging away. I am trying to put the 4 pounds out of my mind for right now and just wait and see what the scale says next week. I am trying to focus on how my body feels and my increased energy. Last night I took a nice bubble bath and read a book to try and relax and unwind...it did help. Thanks for the support!
