Oprah's 12wk Boot camp??

okay folks.....I'M IN TOO !!!!

BOOTCAMP is the correct word for this !! But if y'all think/know you can do it....so can I !!

I started today. Went out last nite and bought the book...checked the websight. I also bought myself a nice clean/ blank/ new journal to write in.

I think we all might agree that the "no grains" part will probably be the hardest part. As well as the excercise...at least for me! I started today with a 6am rise and workout...just gotta keep that up.

I also have a Florida Keys vacation next month.....the extra weight off before will help and if I am on a program like this I will be less likely to go overboard while in Florida. After all, I managed to stay OP on my December WDW trip!

Okay to all.....good luck!
Stay healthy and motivated !! :sunny:

Well today is Wed. I will start tomorrow...

Giving up oatmeal will be the hardest.....I have eatten it for breakfast every day for the last 15+ years but I will do this. I am tired of showing people my disney pics where the kids are standing infront of me. I want to be front and center for the next vacation photos.

Will we have a offical weight in date or not weighing .....how are we doing this??

Kim

I usually do a weigh in on Mondays, it helps keep me going on the weekends :cheer2:

You are brutal :teeth: LOL

I was thinking of a weekly weigh in (Mondays are good-- for me, anyone else?) I was also thinking I would post more than once a week because I need the encouragement... :cheer2:

Sounds interesting...what is the website?

I checked out Oprah's website... I think it was oprah.com. And if you sign up through their website too they send you newsletters... I can't wait until I get an e-mail from Oprah :goodvibes

Good afternoon guys!

As far as weighin day goes, I my weighin days are Sunday so I'll post my results on Monday (although this week it might have to wait until I get back to work on Tuesday because our computer is down at home).

I want to put down my starting weight and then I'll compare it to where I'll be on May 14. I am starting out (as of 2/13/04's weigh in) 186 pounds.

I was up to 187.5 pounds Monday which was a bummer. The good news is that I'm back down to siggy weight today at 185 pounds, yay! I'm never at siggy weight in the middle of the week (yes, I'm a scale addict of the worse kind and weigh everyday). I can't believe I'm down 2.5 pounds since we started. It's so nice to able to move forward and not feel like you have to cover ground you've already covered before.

This morning I did 2 work outs. I've never done two back to back like this. It was a little tiring but so worth it! I did Firm Fat Blasting Cardio and followed it up with Cathe Friedrich's Basic Step+Body Fusion - the lower body add on segment for a total of 53 minutes - so I got a nice mix of cardio and light weights. I'm very proud of myself. Tonight I need to the double work out so I'll be doing Firm Cardio Sculpt Blaster. I will definitely be taking my rest day for the week tomorrow!

Here's my menu:
B: 2 scrambled eggs with a slice of lf cheese and 4 thin slices of lower fat bacon with a cup of hot tea
S: a few cashews
L: a bowl of Progresso's Carb Monitor soup (chicken cheese enchilada)
S: a nectarine
D: chicken breast (dusted with parmesan cheese and fried in a little canola oil) and broccoli with lf cheese sauce with 1 no sugar added fudgesicle for dessert

Lisa - thanks for letting us know about signing up at her website. I didn't do that but will. I'd love to get emails from Oprah too!

mshrm - I don't replace the "white stuff" with anything. It took a bit getting used to and I keep long grain converted rice around for my teen son when he can't stand another salad but that's it. Usually dinner is a lean meat, veggie and salad with a diet soda or fresh brewed ice tea. As I said, it does take a bit getting used to but it's fine really. Tonight I'm making whole wheat spaghetti for DH and DS and I'm having a chicken breast and broccoli with cheese sauce and a no sugar added fudgesicle for dessert. We can take it for a month, right?

Welcome to panfan, Kim, mermaid and Tara - I hope I didn't forget anyone, if I did, I'm sorry. We have a great group here and I know we can all be successful - if the lack of carbs doesn't kill us first (j/k). :)

Lisa- I thought giving up sugar would be easier but I am craving it today... what kind of fudgesicles do you get... I have had sugar free Jello today but it's not cutting it right now... I WANT SUGAR :mickeybar

Ok, If I start now, I'll be back into whole grain carbs by my marathon. I can do without for one month I think??? I have to talk to DH and see if he wants to do it with me, or if I'm going to have to have something different then them. We also do Pizza on Friday??? I also am addicted to my quesadilas with avocado. Maybe I could wrap it in lettuce or just smash the avocado and put salsa on it and eat it.

I WI on Monday's officially, but like Lisa I'm a daily - (actually 2 times a day) weigher. I know, I know your not supposed to but for me it works. I know how my body works and It really tells me a lot. I've really gotten in touch with what foods affect my weight this way.

I have to sit down and make a menu for the next month with no grains and then try to figure out a workout schedule since I'm training I can follow his workout, except I already have miles and times built into my workout. They seem to follow the same pattern as Bob's though. I have a longer workout once a week that goes by miles and not minutes. I'm doing 6 miles this Saturday. I am supposed to have 2 days of rest. How does that fit in? And I'm supposed to take it easy after my marathon. I'll just take it day by day after the maraathon. I have to keep tapering and post race tapering in mind but I'm sure I can come up with something. I just have to be careful to slow down the 2 weeks before the race. I can't be exercising 8 times the two weeks before or two weeks after. That would probably be too much.

Monday weigh ins are fine with me too. Its when I weigh anyway. :)

I'm gonna try my hardest to limit portions of white stuff as far as pasta I'll get whole wheat pasta and limit the portions. Potatoes I rarely buy anymore I used to love a small baked potato with salsa.

Definitely will stick with all the others for sure.

Finish day 2 at gym tonight. I skipped yesterday it was our wedding anniversary we went to dinner and I splurged. Spent 2 hours at gym today though.

Monday works for me. I am starting today with the exercise and better eating habits. However, I think I have to wean myself off sugar or my head will be thumping for days.....tried to go cold turkey with SB and craved due to the headaches so if I give myself a few days to cut it back....maybe it won't be so bad.

How is everyone today!!!!.

How about a mini challenge??? St Patty's day is exactly 4 weeks away today...If it is OK with all of you my mini goals will be:

To be down 7 pds
Drink 3 bottles of water each day
Do all my exercises.
Have all "white stuff" out of my diet.

Oppss getting late gotta get to work, you all have a great day.

I'm just going to throw some dinner ideas out there for those of us who are confused at how to incorporate no whole grains for 30 days. I for one eat lots of whole wheat pasta, brown rice, quinoa, bulgur (a new find), grits, oatmeal, etc. A lot of my recipes have these ingredients in them.

Easy one -
Chili - If anyone needs a great crockpot recipe that is low fat, I can provide

Veggie Lasagna - uses zuchini instead of pasta and portobello mushrooms instead of meat! Saw it on calorie comando on Food Network.
http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,1977,FOOD_9936_27792,00.html

Bean Soup- I have a bean soup recipe that is very tasty. It uses low fat kielbasi, but i"m going to try substituting ground beef that i cook prior. This is a crockpot recipe.

I made an awesome new recipe last night - Chili Mac - I used black beans instead of kidney beans and my kids LOVED it!! I think I would add double beans and omit the whole wheat elbow noodles for my first month. Again, let me know if anyone is interested in recipe.

Pork & Saurkraut - I wont' make mashed potatoes as usual.

I also found a great recipe for a a chili that uses pumkin- Pumpkin Chili mexicana http://www.verybestbaking.com/recipes/detail.aspx?ID=28628
I haven't tried this but it looks yummy.

More for pumpkin - Thai Pumpkin Satay

Anyone else have some good ideas? I need a lot more to fill up 4 weeks!!

What about a substitute for something easy and yummy for our family night on Friday's? We usually have pizza. They are not going to give up pizza easily!

I hope everyone is doing well! I got up this morning and did 20 min of aerobics. I have also been using my breaks at work to go walking. I joined a Curves type gym and my goal is to get there at least 3x a week. :Pinkbounc

I think a mini goal is a great idea. My goal by St Patty's day is:

Exercise 6 days a week
7lbs down sounds good

I am going to continue with my grains, the only thing I eat is one bowl of whole grain cereal in the morning. If I find myself not losing I will cut it.

Have a good day everyone!! :grouphug:

Hi Guys... :wave2:

What a great group already ;)

Mel what great recipies. I would love any and all of them.

Yesterday I had a great day.

I drank all my water (today I need to finish earlier... to many potty trips at night. :rotfl2: )
Did a full workout
Stopped eating 3 hours before
No sugar
And I made it with no grains.

B: egg, veggies and lean ham
S: yogurt with blueberries
L: tomato soup with LF cheese
S: sugar free Jello
D: Taco salad with no shell or chips (yeah for me) It is a low fat WW recipie

I think the mini challenge is great...
I want 8 workouts a week
I want to continue with my water (that's hard for me)
I want to have sugar out of my diet (My DH bought me sugar free fuggies last night  ) And I want to make better food choices.
I would love to be down 6 lbs but I am a slow loser so that might not be possible.

Well that feels like a lot for 4 wks but let's hope I have a little luck of the irish.

Hi Lisa,
Something that Bob mentions in his book Making the Connection is that when you drink water, don't drink it all at once. No more than one or two cups at a time. If you drink too much all at once it signals your body to release water and that is why you end up going a lot and having to go REALLY bad!

Day 4 of the Oprah challenge. I want to report that I'm down another 1/2 pound. That makes 3 pounds since Monday, woohoo!!!!

Menu:
b: 2 sausage patties, 2 scrambled eggs with a slice of lf cheese and hot tea
s: cashews
l: tuna salad
s: a nectarine
d: chicken breast and broccoli with cheese sauce and 1 n/s/a fudgesicle

Exercise: I went home and did my "double" work out last night which for me was actually my third work out of the day. I did Firm cardio sculpt blaster. It was pretty tiring doing 83 minutes of exercise in one day. I think I'm going to scare these last 35 pounds off my body! I am taking a much needed rest day today.

r3angels - I eat no sugar added fudgesicles. They are great and pretty small, a serving is 2 bars. I usually only eat 1 though. I have also found, for me, cold turkey with the sugar was the best way to go. If you just let yourself experience the withdrawals, you'll be rewarded a few days later with this wonderful feeling of power and control that will allow you walk into any donut shop (yes, even Krispy Kreme) and not desire a single item! At least that has been my experience since giving up sugar over a year ago. When I see any carby stuff now, brownies, candy, cake, you name it, it all looks like liver to me! Silly, I know but true. I'm sure this won't be everyone's experience but it has been mine.

Hi all! Everyone seems to be doing great!

I have another "no grain" dinner idea that I use the nights that I have to work.

Chicken Scallopini....just sautee some green peppers, onion, and mushrooms together....( use a little oil or spray) and add some chicken, melt some cheese ( lowfat if you like) and use red gravy of your liking ( spaghetti sauce)
It really is delicious and I ususally eat a side of broccoli with it.

I found over the past couple years....especially the last year ...at work ...( Italian style dinners) Many customers are substituting broccoli or spinach on the side instead of pasta in traditioinal dishes like Chicken Parm etc.

Now only to pass on the bread basket ! If anyone has had South Philadelphia "brick oven baked" Italian bread....you'll know what I mean!

I have also tried the Eggplant/portabella /no noodle Lasagna as a special at work a few times to rave reviews!

Anything really can be done....you just have to use your noodle! ( or not)

Have a Healthy Day! :sunny:

Hi Panfan,
When you mentioned South Philadelphia bread, I realized you don't live too far from me. I live in the Philly Burbs.

Pan fan, another great idea!!!

Here is Day 5's report of the Oprah challenge. I'm down another 1.5 pounds which means I've lost 4.5 pounds since Monday's weigh in. I'm down 2 pounds from my siggy weight and what's most exciting is that I'm at 99.5 pounds lost! Just another 1/2 pound and I'll be claiming membership in the 100 pound club! Woohoo!!!!! I am beyond excited. If I would have known that cutting out the whole grains and upping my exercise routine would have produced these types of results, I would have done this weeks ago.

Here's my menu for today:
B: 2 scrambled eggs with a slice of lf cheese, 4 thin lower fat bacon strips with a cup of hot tea
S: cashews
L: Progresso carb monitor soup (chicken cheese enchilada)
S: a nectarine
D: toppings off 3 slices of pizza and a diet soda with 1 n/s/a fudgesicle for dessert

Exercise: I did Firm BSS3 Total Muscle Shaping (45 minutes) for my work out this morning.

panfan - yummy food ideas, thanks. I'm thinking of trying the noodless lasagna I've heard so much about. I really haven't paid too much attention to "grain free" meals because I've been able to have the whole grains. It's back to lowcarbfriends recipe site for some additional ideas to go along with yours. I have to see if the family is up to experimenting.

Can someone tell me WHAT TO EAT? I can handle dinners - I am at home & can cook....but what about the days I work or I am on the go & need to fix something quick? I can't cook a chicken breast at lunch time....and I can't scramble eggs for breakfast......what are some "quick food" ideas? I want to do this - I CAN do this! :goodvibes
