Ok, I never ever watch Oprah, cuz I don't really care for her. BUT, I have it on now, because over on the budget board, they said todays show was talking about the debt diet. Ok, heres my vent...there is a commercial every 2 minutes!! Literally! Is this how talk shows are now? I mean, she can't even get thru a list of 4 items, and she goes to a commercial..I timed it....less than 2 minutes of the show, then more commercials. How annoying!

I Tivo her show, so I don't really notice. I do notice that as the show progresses, the comercial breaks get longer. The first break is about a minute and a half, by the end of the show, the last break is almost 4 minutes!

I love Tivo, I rarely have to watch comericals anymore! I record almost everything, so I'm able to just zip past them. Watching the Olympics has been rough on me, I can't fast forward! ;)

yep, and when she comes back for that 2 minutes of show, the first 45 seconds are "Hello, Today we are talking about blah blah blah", recapping what show is about. So only probably a minute of the segment is new stuff. Dr Phil is that exact same way, not suprisingly since they share a production crew. My guess is that an 60 minute show has about 12 minutes of content.

I have it TIVOing - usually hate Oprah but it sounded interesting.

Is it worthwhile, other than the Commercials?

Yes - it is very annoying. I think she needs all the advertising to pay for all the free stuff she always gives away to the audience.

Can someone tell me what her show was about today? I saw the previews, but I won't be able to watch it.

Well, I can't speak to that as I don't usually watch either. What I want to know is is it worth my while to try and contact someone at home to record it for me? Did you feel that what content there was was of value? Learn anything new?

It is supposed to be some kind of challenge to put America on a Debt Reduction Diet.

I actually only caught the last 20 min of it...I don't think the part I saw was all that useful. They went thru one family and explained their $80,000 of debt, and what they should/should not be doing (kindof obvious). Then went thru the 4 rules of their debt diet. I believe it may all be on her website? Next Friday is going to be a part 2.

Then she follow it all up with a show about "her favorite things" and make everyone want to spend their money. :teeth:

What I find annoying is when they go into a break, they'll show a clip of what's coming on after the break....then the segment you see after the break is not much more than what they already showed before the break.

not to mention...I think Opree is EVIL!!!

This is what annoys me about The Dr. Phil Show! He talks for about five minutes, if that, then talks about what he's GOING to talk about, then a clip shows what is coming up, then commercials, then a short clip, then he talks about what he WAS talking about, and that's how it goes for the whole show. Frustrating! :crazy2:

She is plain annoying no matter what the topic is!!

I'm surprised she didn't pay off the audience's debt. Oh wait that wouldn't be her, it would be a sponsor and she would take the credit.

Exactly! I've tried to convey this point before. I'm so glad to see that someone else shares my opinions. She has cajillions of dollars. She could easily help out any of those people on her own. Remember when she gave all those people those cars on her season opener?? Yeah I thought "oh how nice of Oprah. Finally doing something good with all that money." Then NOT! Sponsors (I believe Pontiac) DONATED those cars. None of Oprah's money went towards those. Yet all of her worshipping followers just go out and buy stuff because it has the "Oprah" stamp on it along with her book club. Who cares?!

The show really has taken on a "Reality Show" type.

:thumbsup2

I read that if they actually wanted the cars they had to pay the taxes themselves.

me too. :hyper:

No actually I don't think she is evil. I think her shows are simplistic mind candy and that she attracts legions of people who are of the type to not even be able to even pick out their own hand lotion without her telling them which one to buy.

And the fact that she has made a bazillion dollars attracting a cult - I guess makes me a little jealous.

Honestly though, she has a tremendous amount of power in our society. I think that if she truly decided to put America on a "Debt Diet," she could put Dave Ramsey out of business.

I joke with my wife about the cult of Opree...she has this :wizard: mystical power to make pretentious-junior league-yuppie-white women act like utter fools...

:wizard: = = :worship: party:

ok, now I'm going to :duck:

Tivo, dude.

I'd rather DIS for the next hour, I'm sure someone will highlite the whole show, and then I won't have to waste my time watching the snippets of the show with the 5 minute commercials.
