Oprah ending talk show in 2011

My DH said she is supposedly going to restart it on her own network. Anyone else heard that?

CNN) -- Oprah Winfrey will announce on Friday's "Oprah Winfrey Show" that she is ending the talk show, said a spokesman for Winfrey's Harpo Productions.
The show will air live at 9 a.m. CT.
CNN affiliate WLS in Chicago, Illinois, said the final show would air September 9, 2011.

I didn't even know she still had a talk show! I used to watch it sometimes when I was in college. Haven't seen it in many years.

Thank goodness...she has done enough damage already.

I agree.. I lost all interest and respect for her a long time ago.. It's a shame, because there was a time when she wasn't the way she is now and actually made sense..

Dr. Phil should be the next to go.. He's gotten too full of himself and I don't see where he actually "helps" anyone - although sometimes at least the topics are interesting..

Oh amen, sister. I can't stand Oprah OR Dr. Phil.. all he does is talk down to people and make them look stupid to the audience. That doesn't seem like he's really trying to help.

Wow - I'm not a big Oprah watcher or fan, but that will sure be the end of an era.

I don't know, ever see that documentary on Bravo (I think) called the "Oprah effect". As far as marketing goes, her name is gold. Ask the authors who had their books on her book club or any of the small business she highlights through the year. Once their name is associated with O's their businesses, books etc go through the roof.

Not to mention the 10's of millions she doles out to charities each year.

I don't watch really any talk shows but the women hands out supports her causes.

Wouldn't it seem more reasonable to announce this a year from now?

he has no TRAINING to help anyone. he's not a licensed counselor, let alone his blatant disregard of confidentiality. if someone off the street did what he does, they would be sued beyond their wildest dreams. :sad2:

No, because that will give the die-hard fans enough time to start a letter writing effort to keep the show on the air. they will write to all the sponsors and have them beg her to keep the show going! and of course, the show will have to charge more for the commercials, because oprah dosn't make enough money per episode.

I'm sad. I always have liked Oprah and my mom does too.

He has a degree in psychology.

Dr. Phil holds a B.A. from Midwestern State University and an M.A. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from North Texas State University with a dual area of emphasis in clinical and behavioral medicine.

he may have a degree, but he is not licensed, and has not been since 2006 and his little "intervention" with britney spears in 2008 was appalling.

Rosie O'Donnell isn't my favorite, either, but on Rosie Radio on Sirius this week she said, "If I had all the $$ Oprah has, I would take the time to enjoy it a little!" From everything I've read, O is very controlling of her empire, so I have to agree with Rosie (for once, somebody write down the day;)).
