Edited to add: I should have been clearer with my question:

I wonder how much they will be contributing to the Haiti relief effort?

I am not saying they HAVE to contribute, or they SHOULD contribute, or that it is any of my business. I was thinking that they have incredible resources, and in the past have proven to be humanitarians. SO, I was just thinking about the vast amount of help people in their position could provide.

Sorry if I ruffled any feathers, I'm really not a debate type of person. :upsidedow

I do. They have given very large amounts to causes in the past, just think how much they could help.

So because they can, you expect them to?
While I'm certain they will I don't care how much they give, or think its anyone's business. I also know that no matter how much they donate, some (general public) will believe its not enough.

Who's to say they are donating plenty and want to keep it private?

TC:cool1:

Well it didn't take long to turn ugly, did it? :sad2::sad2:

Never mind :sad2:

Wow, no kidding. Yeesh.

I don't think questioning you on why it matters means its turned ugly. I just don't think any of us have the right to know how much anyone donated, I mean what if there was a thread asking the DISers how much they are going to give?

I guess it surprised me to see one person post about how much WDW is giving, and the response there was a lot different than this one, which looks to me just to be a random "I'm curious" type question. I can't imagine she was asking just so that we could complain about chintzy celebrities... :confused3

If I were in some of their shoes I would make an effort to donate what I could. Heck, I donated $10, which was all I could reasonably afford, and I don't mind if others know. :flower3:

I think you are probably referring to my post, I didn't mean that the OP personally would be complaining, just that there will be people who will. I will go back and edit it, because thats not at all how I meant it.

Thank you! I also donated what I could, but I guess it's bragging to tell????:sad2:

These are generous people who have made a huge difference in the lives of so many, I just think they could literally move mountains at this point. The rest of us are doing what we can and I was just curious. I guess we should stick to relevant topics like Conan O'Brien. ;)

As I stated it the "other" thread, I don't think it's anyones business how much anyone donates. I didn't ask my boss if she donated, I didn't ask my neighbor and it's none of my business what a stranger donated either. I just hope and pray that everyone can make an effort to donate what they are able to. Every little bit helps, even if all you are able to give is $5 or $10.

Alot of these celebrities donate because they want their name in the press or they want EVERYONE to know how generous and wonderful they are. I believe that Oprah and Bill Gates probably did or will donate. They, along with many musicians, actors and other "rich" people are probably doing it quietly. :thumbsup2 I think that is the smartest thing to do, then they don't open themselves up to everyones judgement.

I guess some of us just don't see the amount someone donates as any more relevant than you see a thread on Conan.

When Oprah built that school she certainly didn't keep it quiet. When Bill Gates funds those scholarships he doesn't keep it quiet. I'm not saying how much they should give, it was just a thought that crossed my mind this morning. Why is everyone getting so sensitive? I'm not judging anyone, I'm just saying what they are capable of is mind boggling.

I see it as revelant that China, who supposedly has the second largest economy after the USA, donated 1 million dollars as compared to lesser economies donating tens of millions. The USA is officially donating 100 million. I just wonder why China would only give 1 million when they can afford a lot more with no sweat.

Wyclef Jean and his wife are down there pulling dead bodies out of the rubble....

China isn't exaclty known for it's humane treatment of it's own citizens.... I'm surprised they gave anything....

You are the only one who seems to be getting sensitive in this thread, others are just posting their thoughts on celebrities making "announced" donations.

You are right in that they amount that they could give is mind boggling to us working stiffs, but why does it matter how much they do give? I'm sure that both Oprah and the Gates have been donating money for hundreds of worthy causes over the years, but they don't run to the press every time they do. Sure, they did in the instances that you spoke of and I'm sure on some other, but why do they have to do it with this one?

:sad1: I'm sure this has to be so horrible for them as i'm sure that he still has family down there.

Last I checked, China wasn't a "someone" ;)
And again, I really couldn't care any less about what anyone donates except me, whether its a communist country or the good ol' USA. Why should it matter to anyone except the people of Haiti?
