There are 6 of us in my family, going to WDW in August. We cannot figure out how to get to the airport for our 8-day vacation.

We have a minivan, we could park it for about $14/day at the Cleveland Airport. Not my favorite idea, lol. If anyone drove us, they would have to have a van to fit us all (and themself and our luggage). Cab would probably be pretty expensive, its about 25 miles I think. Limos, etc need 4-hour booking for a hefty pricetag. Am I missing something obvious?

Ideas, anyone?

have em drive your van and drop it off at your house and pick back up there car, :sunny:

I know this sounds a little wierd...but we often pick up a rental car for 1 day before we leave either at the airport or at a neighborhood rental agency near our house that has free airport drop off....and just drive the rental to the airport and leave it there. I usually find a 1 day midsize rental for under $20 including taxes and fees..... now there are usually only 5 of us and renting a minivan might be more, but it allows us to load the car the night before and not have to hope the cab shows up the next AM (we had a couple of bad experiences with cabs and early AM departures...so we started doing this and it works well for us....less $$ than leaving the car at the airport or a cab and we have a little more control over timing).

If you have a good friend or relative that will go by the airport and pick up the van for you sometime later in the day after you leave and drive it home for you, then you can call them from the airport and give them an exact location where you parked...would have to be a pretty good friend to go to the trouble, but we used to do that for my sister and her family (there were 6 of them and same situation).

Also you might want to check out any off site parking locations....most places have them for $5 to 6 per day and they will shuttle you to the terminal...takes a few extra minutes and not free, but beats airport parking rates.

My only other suggestion is to look at motels near the airport and see if they offer free parking and shuttle service to the airport. We often book a room via Priceline at Indianapolis hotels near the airport when flying out of there....sometimes we use the room, sometimes we don't but they let us park there for free while we are gone and shuttle us back and forth to the airport.

Most limos offer aiport transportation at a discount and you dont have to book a minimum time frame. I'm gettin a limo to pick me and my bf up at home to bring us to the airport. Its $100 each way for a 6 person limo. We are only using it one way...its a surprise for him. disney trip a couple days near his 21 birthday.

I used to live in Cleveland Heights. Whenever I needed to go to Hopkins I arranged a ride with an airport shuttle service (usually a big van or one of those tiny buses). At least on the East Side, they served several of the hotels in the area of I-271 at Cedar Road. It was pretty reasonable from what I remember, but I haven't lived in the area for about 7 years.

I also took the Rapid (red line) once, but I didn't have kids at the time, and I imagine that would be tougher with kids.

Call some of the big hotels in that area, or in your area, and ask if there's an airport shuttle. I can't remember exactly which chain it was, and who knows if it's still there, but I usually caught a shuttle at the hotel that's on Cedar Road, closest to I-271 (before the entrance) and on the right side of the road as you drive AWAY from Cleveland. I hope this makes sense.

Best part? Parking at the hotel was free!

Park 'N fly has a $66 weekly rate at Cleveland. I believe their website is www.pnf.com

Their shuttles run all the time and are quite effiecient.

I have used Park and Fly in other cities before and I really like them....great service, fast shuttles, never have to wait and they have the car ready and waiting for you on return. Their web site usually has a coupon for a few dollars off as well. That might be your best bet.

Hi, we also use the Cle airport. We have a 7 passenger suv but with 5 of us plus whoever takes us and luggage it just wasnt enough room. We bought a soft top luggage carrier (from Dicks - about $25.00) and then we are able to pack our luggage on top and it is a breeze to pull out the suitcases and throw the carrier in the backseat at the airport. Plus, we can use it for any vacations that we don't fly. It sure beat paying to park or taking any type of "car service". My parents take our suv back to their house until we get back.

If you decide to do Park N Fly swing by the airport drop off area and drop off mom, kids and luggage, then send hubby to the remote lot alone with the car. No sense in schlepping your luggage and kids onto a bus.

I live in Cleveland too and my family of 4 are going in Aug. too. My grandfather usally drives us but now he has been having eye trouble, we are either going to keep our mini van there or we are going to have someone else drive us. It will be way to expensive to keep the van there for us b/c we are supose to be gone for 12 days and the money will really add up. I will sugest that u take 2 cars and have your friends or family drive you to the airport.

sort of update...

We are going to look at the possiblility of my moms' hubby picking us up by travelling East, leaving his car at our house, driving us to Airport by travelling west past his house in our own van, driving back east past his house to our house, trading back to his own car. :rotfl2:

It really is never easy AND cheap, is it, lol. My mom has a minivan we were hoping would make this all easier, but she works third shift and it would really complicate everything if they switched their vehicles around. WOuld be easier for us, but she HATES his car!! Anyway, we'll see what her dh comes up with after looking over his schedule.

I even thought about offering our neighbor (who has a minivan) some $ to drive us to the airport. Still thinking that we could maybe do that.

would there be enough room for you to pick up moms hubby and then drive to airport and have them park your van in their driveway? I mean they would have to pick you up and then you can just drop whomever picks you up at moms house. that way you know your van will be watched and save moms hubby from shleppin all over.

Just a thought.

I had the same issue last trip and ended up leaving my SUV in a local shuttle lot close to us for $66 p/w and taking the shuttle $20 PP RT. so for $106 I got it done. The lowest limo or driver price I got from where I lived was $150 plus tip RT.

We are, actually, tossing around moms hubby getting picked up on the way, and our van staying in their driveway. Problem is, their driveway doesn't very well fit 3 vehicles. And 2 of those would be minivans.

I checked into the p-n-f... since our van would be parked for 8 days 11 hours,. its right around $80 or so. If we end up having to, I might just do that. Definitely easier!
Hopefully mom will let her hubby do all this in her van. Much easier for him.

There are companies who will send us a private shuttle, but it actually costs more than the p-n-f.

Thanks everyone!
