With a top load machine, do you like a traditional adjitator in the center or the infusor (nothing in the center of the drum) where the water pressure moves the clothes ?

I like the old style fill up with water top loader. Give me about 3 speeds on the wash, 2 speeds or so on the spin, and fill and temperature options and I'm good to go.

I had 2 criteria 1) traditional agitator and 2) ability to superfill to override HE feature.

That narrowed down the choices substantially.

Ditto for me! Don't need all of the fancy, more stuff to break features!

This is what ours is and I’m quite happy with it.

Love the traditional top loader with agitator with the deep water option. We had a top load without agitator for 6 years: It didn't wash items well and the bearings went out on it twice.

I also prefer the traditional agitator. I had one with no agitator for years and it was constantly going off balance, no matter how hard I tried to keep the clothes evenly placed.

I don't know anymore. I am using both. The washer with agitator may get the clothes cleaner?

Give me just the basics with a center agitator. You have to be careful with appliances just like you do electronics because a lot of features are really useless and just used to try and sell you something you just don't need. I bought one of the least expensive washer and dryer sets in 2005 and other than replacing a heating element in the dryer have had $0 maintenance charges while both have been going now for just under 13 years.

Have a top loader without an agitator for a year now. HE. Worst thing I’ve ever bought. Doesn’t get the clothes clean pure and simple. And I’m always using extra rinse cycles in an attempt to get them clean so hardly HE.

Never again!

Had our traditional top loader with agigitaor that survived seven moves and being in a carport laundry room. It was essentially outside temperature-wise. It lasted 16 years and once I even let it fill with water in winter and the whole thing froze! My BIL/SIL have gone through 3 fancy front loaders in less time than that.
I knew for our new one it had to be top loading and one that I could throw the ‘late arrivals’ in after starting a wash. Did end up going without an agitator this time and it does pretty well. Definitely can get more clothes in, but gets off balance easier. Have only had it less than two years so we’ll see how it holds up. I feel like the front loaders have too many ‘computer parts’ that can go bad. I just want a mechanical wash!

Neither, front loader :D

My load of laundry in my old front loader washer is 6 loads in my mother's top loader. I'm happier now going to the laundromat than the 2 years I was stuck at my mother's house using the top loader.

I have been pulling my hair out trying to buy a washer and dryer for my new home. There are way too many options... and so confusing. Why do I need my washer to have WiFi and remote washing capability? It’s not like it can take clothes from the hamper and load itself. Lol.

I’ve seen mixed reviews about the agitator vs non agitator. I was leaning towards non agitator until I saw that it takes twice as long to wash a load.

Thus far, I have not bought anything. It hurt my brain too much. Of course, I am also dealing with space issues. It seems if I find a dryer that works with the vent and space I have, the matching washer is too big. If I find a washer that works for my space, the dryer won’t hook to the vent (in floor). It’s all very frustrating.

I have a front loader so no help here. Although I will agree with the “keep it simple” theory. Mine has a dial for the type of wash cycle (quick, gentle, normal, bedding etc) and buttons for water temp, soil level and loudness of the “cycle is over” noise and that’s it.

When I had my house built, almost 6 years ago I bought a top loader, HE, no agitator. I was happy with it until it died after 5 years and 2 months of light use (2 to 3 loads/week). The part to repair it would have cost over $300. The repair man strongly recommended a Speed Queen. I took his advise and have no regrets, although it's only been 7 months. I'm hoping that I will never have to buy another washer.

My parents recently purchased a new top loader and the sales person highly recommended they go with an agitator. He said that in machines without an agitator, the clothes stuffed in the center of the load don't get as clean or moved around as much. It made logical sense to me, and I don't think it was a sales tactic because the ones without the agitator tended to be more expensive. So, they went with the agitator and have been happy.

I heard the description of how careful you have to be with clothing placement to make a non-agitator model work well and immediately knew half the members of our house would ignore that and stuff it full every single time (with a YEAH I can fit more clothes in this thing!) An agitator quickly became a high priority. I expect by the next time we have to buy one, it will no longer be an option though.

Run away very fast (don't walk) from top loaders with no agitator. Bought one in March of 2017. Had 7 service calls on it and every time service guy said " Nothing wrong ,operating exactly how it should" . Just would not get clothes clean. Had to was everything on deep wash extra rinse and the would do an extra rinse and spin. Would leave lint and soap residue all over dark clothes. Had one pair of black pants we washed at least 6 times by itself and never got everything off of them. I finally figure out how to keep residue from getting on the clothes. Had to cut detergent down to 1 teaspoon (yes teaspoon not table spoon). Of course the clothes did not get clean and still stunk but hey one problem solved at a time. Finally in March of this year just got rid of this pc of crap and went to a front load. Funny thing is when we went to purchase this new one there were about 5 of the exact same top load model we had purchased back on the floor with price reduction stickers on them that had been returned within 30 days of purchase. (wish we would have done so.) Oh well its Wonderful to have clothes that are clean and smell good again.
