I read in Birnbaum's book about Mickey Mart in DTD as the store with items that are basically $10 or less. I want to plan a trip to DTD just to visit this store. Is it worth it? Are the items good, or are they chipped cups and stuffed plushes with eyes missing?

Also, what are some other good stores in DTD that I must visit?

TIA

Well, It wouldn't hurt to take a look for yourself. Walking right in and out wouldn't take you long at all. When we went, we didn't purchase anything special -just basic treasure box items for my classroom.

the items are good, just discontinued for whatever reason. the deals vary. usually there's a mix'n'match wall that's like 4 items for $10. in the past i've bought these little wind up dancing figures, a HKDL style minnie for like half off. last time, i bought a bunch of these sunshine friends - solar powered bobble heads for $2.50 each - got a donald, a stitch and a dumbo.

i also just remembered i bought mystery bags, which are like $5.something.. just opened them up.. in one, i got:

- the princess autograph/photo book
- a sheet of tinker bell magnets
- a deck of mickey head shaped playing cards
- us flag/mickey head iron-on patch

i only bought 2 because usually they're similiar, so let's see what's in the other one:

okay, it's exactly the same.

but still, that autograph book plus everything else for under $6 is a deal.

there are plenty of cool stores at DTD, both at the marketplace and west side.. world of disney, goofy's candy, once upon a toy, etc..

When I was there last year I believe they had mostly novelty stuff. I can't remember exactly what they had, We basically walked in look for 20 min. and left. I didn't see anything that we might want. Of course this was just my girlfriend and me. I think they have alot for stuff for kids. They also have Lego Imagination Center, Disney's Candy Cauldron, Disney's Days Of Christmas, Pooh Corner. That is just a few of the stores. Here is a link that you can look at all the Disney stores. http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/moreMagic/moreMagicShopListing?id=DTDShopsListingPage

I have a better idea for you. If you are able to plan a trip just to visit that store, then plan insted to come when you can get true bargins.

Twice a year Disney has a merchandise liquidation sale here in Celebration. Everything is 70% off the retail price. It is not junk, returns or broken items. It is overstocks only! This is a big deal and people come from all over for it and spend thousands of dollars. If you check out my blog I will have an entry up about it later today or tomorrow. This past sale (last weekend) I picked up a large musical snow globe. retail over $80.00, we got it for around $20. People were standing outside in the rain waiting to get in. Best yet, part of the proceeds go to charity.

there is nothing broken or seconds. It's just stuff that sells for less than $10. Some of it is discontinued, but some is stuff you can find in other stores, it just happend to sell for less than $10.
There are a lot of things kids would like. I bought 2 little cars - Mickey was driving one and Stitch was driving a pink caddilac in his Elvis suit. $5 each. I also saw some little pretend kids cell phones that (I think) played music when you hit the buttons.
If you go out of that specific room, you end up with stuff that is more, so look where you are carefully.

At the DTD store I saw stuff that I had thought I was buying "exclusively" at the NYC WOD store (since that's what they told me, it would never be sold at any other location). They had Minnie as Statue of Liberty, Donald as a NYC Fireman, Mickey as an NYPD cop and the same jumbo "exclusive" pins I paid full price for in NYC, so I suspect there is a bit of discontinued mdse there too, but much of it was the same stuff I saw all over the parks...it was just under $10.

If you really do not want to make a trip to DTD just for this store though, there is also one just before you enter the World Showcase (entering WS on the Canada side)

just to be clear.. pretty much everything in that breezeway should be discontinued merchandise... you do sort of get tricked into heading into tails where there are signs everywhere saying 'under $10' and 'under $15' etc.. those are current merchandise.

like if you went there today, you'd probably see a lot of summer merchandise.

Not worth it, imo. We have yet to get stuff there, and we're big dollar store lovers.

Fave store is the Christmas Store and the Lego Store in DTD.

The last two times I went, they had mostly things that you can get in all of the other stores for less than $10. Sadly, I think it is just part of the trend of all of the stores having the same things. We are not going this year when we go. I usually can find great stocking stuffers for my boys (5 & 1) but since I can find most of the stuff in the other stores, I will not make the trip this time.

I was excited the first time I was going here, too. Then when I saw it, it's dark, set off from the other stores, no magic whatsoever...So I thought, OK, it's worth it for some deals...they only had a couple of things marked down, the rest is how others have described..a collection of things from other stores that are under $10. I thought it was a kind of outlet. I haven't been in it again, 4 years later.

we always walk through it... don't always buy stuff.
Not worth the trip for that alone, but if you are there, stop by.
We got some great picture albums last trip for 1/3 of original price.

Not worth it IMO! The SuperWalmart nearby has great Disney novelty items (keychains, bags, magnets, mugs, etc..) for well under $10! If looking for souveniers at a bargain, I would suggest going there instead of the tiny $10 store in DTD!

I love Mickey Mart, but since my mum and I usually stay at POFQ it's not a huge deal to nip down to DTD (we usually go about 3-4 times per trip). I don't know that I would go just for Mickey Mart, but there are a bunch of other stores there that I love (WoD, Basin, etc.).
