Opinions on Minerals make-up

I was wondering if you all would give me your opinions on which minerals make-up to get. I got an EM sample kit and I liked it (I don't have good brushes yet). However, I am not sure if I picked the right base or not (it is really hard to pick over the internet). I can get to an id store in December, however, I don't know which brand is the best. Do you like EM, BM or BE the best? How do you choose colors over the internet. What do you recommend to start with (what kit and brushes)?

I went to sephora and bopught the bare minerals starter kit. I loved it!!! I got the free sample to try and got all the wrong colors for me. I am very pale but these were to light even for me! An employee asked me if I was sick because I was so pale. I would go to sephora ( if there is one near you) and try the samples. The Bare mineral kit also comes with some brushes.

There's a huge thread on the Disney Tips board about this - the title of the thread is "Back Home with Great Makeup Tips for WDW." It has about 85 posts on it, with lots of feedback about minerals make-up.

I use Bare Minerals, but I think there are some options out there that are less expensive and just as good.

I got the Everyday Minerals sample kit and then ended up ordering it! I Love this make-up! I haven't looked this refreshed in years!

However, I found the make-up I ended up ordering seemed darker than the sample was. So, I have learned to put it on sparingly and know it will last me a long time. The colors can be deep, so a little goes a long way!!!

I did order a kabuki brush that I love, as well as a concealer brush. I found putting on the concealer with a make-up sponge works better for me and I don't make a huge mess.

Experiment with the make-up to see what works best for you.

Good Luck!!! :sunny:

I bought the BM starter set from their site for $59.98. It came with absolutely everything you will need including excellent brushes. I will never use anything else. Gave a set to DD (18) and it has helped with her skin issues. A friend sells AVON and they came out with a minerals foundation and I thought I would try it to possibly extend my Bare Minerals. It is terrible. The consistency of tiny pebbles. You can also purchase Bare Minerals by the piece on QVC, but for the cost of the starter kit it's quite worth it to just buy that. The individual cost of the brushes alone would be nearly that.

The starter kit is your best bet for starting out without a doubt. I spent a fortune when I first started using it because they didn't have the starter kits.

If you end up with foundation that is too light, just mix a bit of warmth in with it. You may need to put it in an empty pot or another container but the warmth will darken it a bit. You won't need to ad much either. I did that when I was tanning so my foundation was the same as my skin color as I darkened.

I am a BE junkie - I'll admit it. I mentioned in the other thread also, if you think you might like an eye shadow - look on eBay for sample sizes and try it out. The sample sizes they sell will last a long time also because you just don't use that much at a time. I buy the eye colors and then split out small pots with about 20 uses for myself, dd and son's girlfriend. That way if we accidentally drop one & spill we only lose the sample size. Or if the airline loses my case, etc. We probably have about 60 eye shadow shades and I split off into pots so we can all share the colors.

EM has mini size pots of eyeshadow for $2.50. They last forever and you can't go wrong with the price. Colors tend to be very 'rich' so a little goes a long way.

Thank you everyone for all of your help! I went ahead and ordered a starter kit and I can't wait for it to get here.

hi I have been using Sheer cover but just received my free sample of em. I love them, I will definitely be ordering some very soon.

When I bought my bare minerals I went to Target and bought brushes there. They work fine. And alot less expensive!

Also just wanted to say for people with rudy complexions this does exactly what it says it will. Covers all my capillaries and redness. I do use the bisque first to conceal.

I like the BE from QVC...you can usually get a good deal that does include the brushes. It also gives you a chance to use it and if you don't like it you can send it back.... :thumbsup2

I just received my EM kit on Friday and so far I love it! I have very oily skin and EM really works well! I have hardly had to touch it up throughout the day. In fact, I put it on at 12:30p on today and it's still going strong at 2:30a (I'm at work right now) with only 1 touch up at 6:30p before I left the house! My trip is in 2 weeks and I'm hoping that it works just as well at WDW.

BE has great products! I get mine from QVC or Sephora. Also, Neutrogena has a pretty good product and it's less "messy" because the brush is attached - it's called Mineral Sheers. And Philosophy is my current favorite - the puff is attached - The Supernatural w/SPF 15; it's also on QVC and Sephora's websites. I am very fair and get the Philosophy product in Natural and the Neutrogena in Fair to Light.

I was wondering what BM foundation color you order. I am pretty fair skinned myself and am trying to decide if I should order the mediumbeige/medium or the fairly light/light starter kit.

I have been using BE for over a year and I ordered the EM last week. I have to say while the like the prices for the EM, I still prefer the BM. My DD who is 10 asked me what was wrong with my make up. I just don't like the way it looks on my skin.

Definitely the fairly light/light kit. The light is actually darker than the fairly light.

I did really like the EM sample of concealer, better than the summer bisque that the Sephora people told me I needed. I might get some bisque for the winter. I do wonder though if the EM samples are better quality than the products you order.

Can someone explain to me the various brands of minerals make up? I know what the EM is, but I'm confused about BE and BM. I've also heard something about ID. For some reason I think these three are all the same. I ordered the samples from EM, but unfortunately the colors aren't right for me. That's why I wonder if I'm better off going to someplace like Sephora where I assume they would help me pick out the right color. Thanks!

My color in BM is fair. If you go to a Sephora store (or a BM store if you have one nearby), they have all the colors available. You can easily go a few shades darker (or lighter) if you want more color. It is easy to blend. Lots of gals mix colors. Since my neck is very white, I try not to go much darker because a tan does not look at all "natural" on me!

Here is a GREAT BM website.

BM = Bare Minerals, which is the product line of the Bare Escentuals company. They are also labeled ID - just to catch us napping! ;) It can be confusing to choose a color; there are many! The folks at a BE or Sephora store are very helpful. Also, Leslie Blodgett, the CEO, is on QVC every so often. Check out the attached link. Also, BM products include blushes, shadows, "glimmers", and "glimpses". There are lipsticks and face and body products and LOTS of different brushes. I have a few.... ;) BM is applied with a brush; the minerals are loose and can be messy until you get the hang of it!

The Neutrogena product (about $12) is applied with an attached brush and is the cheapest alternative (but works very well). The Philosophy Supernatural ($35) has an attached puff.

These are the only lines I have tried. Some other include Pur, Sheer Cover and Jane Iredale.

There is an active Bare Escentuals Addicts group on Delphi Forums. Also, check out Makeup Alley for comments. Have fun experimenting!

I've used EM for almost two years, after switching from BM, and the quality is extremely high! The samples are the real thing.
