The interaction at Whispering Canyon was tenfold to Primetime when we were there and we don't have any kids! We enjoyed it and got to keep out hats too!
Both of these are some of my favorite places to dine. I'm not too into the whole hoop-la, but enjoy their food. When I go to check in at either place, I (very nicely) indicate to the host/hostess that I'm not really into all the games, banter, etc. and would prefer a table a little away from all that and that the server be informed of my wishes. Everytime I've dined, the waiter/waitress have respected my wishes. I still got great service and good food. Also, there is a quieter section at the WCC, so you could ask to be seated there.
thank you! the menu sounds great at WCC. that's why we wanted to try it!
we were just a little scared of not being able to enjoy the meal. we enjoy a
lively atmosphere!

We went to WCC in Feb and had a great dinner/experience. First let me say we are not a loud, get up draw attention to yourself type of family. Both of my DD's are rather shy. We were seated in the center of the main dining area. Our server casually joked around with us a little (as any server might) but really didn't do much as far a pranks etc. He only did one, giving a very large straw to my girls. When we finally asked for a regular staw a few were thrown on the table. I think if anyone was expecting a lot of pranks, etc. they would have been disapointed with our experience. I'm not sure if the server knew that we didn't need much or that was his normal, but it suited us just fine. We did enjoy watching everything going on around us and the food. DD9 declared the Mac and Cheese the WDW winner (she tested quite a few!). Even DH veggie meal was very good.
A few years ago my daughter, who is on the shy side, left Whispering Canyon in tears--they just wouldn't leave her alone. They meant well, but just pushed it too far. I know its all in fun, but somehow being harrassed does not fall into my definition of fine dining!
I'd suggest you take a peek at Whispering Canyon if you are over at WL before you actually eat there. It's noisy and boisterous, and maybe they'll leave you alone if you ask, but there sure is a lot going on there. As earlier posters implied, it makes Prime Time look like Victoria & Alberts!
Among the things they will do: joke with you, make fun of you, bring you oversized beverages, make you a bandana out of napkins/placemats, throw straws on the table, make the men get up and sing and dance to "My Little Buttercup."
We really have fun there but if you're not into audience participation I would skip it. But again, take a look if you get the chance..you might decide it's not that bad!
We stayed at the WL in 1999, and ate at WCC several times for breakfast. We did not experience any joking around or poking fun at us, but the restaurant was pretty empty each time we were there.
In 2002 we went for lunch right at noon. We were seated in the corner, and again we had a normal lunch.
Maybe it was because we are just 2 adults, or maybe they thought we were on our honeymoon(we were married in 1996! but got asked each time if we were honeymooners...)
I agree. WC is more rowdy than Primetime. One year, it was just the two of us and we asked for a quiet table but were still chosen to participate. It's more fun with kids (if they are up to it). I wish there was a quiet section because the food is good.
