Opinions needed for rental car

Okay, here's the deal: I'm going Nov 30 with two friends and we're leaving Dec 7. We're staying at All Star Movies and I'm now considering using a rental car for getting around WDW. We want to tour most resorts, because of Christmas decorations and we might even go off property to shop/eat (only if we rent a car). What are people's opinions? I've stayed at All-Stars before and I know their bus service is good, but it's harder and takes more time to go between resorts.

Let me know what others think. Thanks.

We decided to get a rental car because we wanted to go to the outlets and because we wanted to visit some different resorts. Also, that leaves open the possibility to drive if the buses are really slow or crowded. (we went in December, and the buses were great...I just like to have a back up plan.)

Honestly, by the time you pay for a town car to get to Disney, you could have a big chunk of the price of a rental car paid for. Last Jan. we had a car for a week, I think we paid around $165 for the entire week! Use these boards and www.mousesavers.com to look for bargains and codes for cars. After having relied on Disney Transportation for several trips, we loved having a car. Of course, we weren't there during a busy time, so traffic was a not an issue. It just took a few minutes to get from ASMo to the parks. Also, you will be able to stop at a store and save money on water, snacks, etc. On our last day, we had visited MK, AK, and Epcot before noon to revisit our favorite attractions! You can't do that on Disney Transportation!

All week we kept saying, "Why did it take us so long to figure out we needed a Car?":D

We always get a car. It saves so much time. The bus transportation is great, but really takes a while to get from one place to the other. We only use it when we go to Pleasure Island, in case we do a little drinking! LOl!

You can get rental cars pretty cheap if you go small.

Thanks for all the responses. I think I will probably go with a rental car. I sort of looked earlier on Dollar and got a quote of $125 for the week. The towncar would be $80 roundtrip and the rental car isn't much more.

Thanks again! Only 127 days!

Mickeefan,

I don't think I'm the only one who's curious how you got a $125 quote from Dollar.

I used a code I found on Mousesavers.com. I don't have my itinerary with me today, so I will have to wait to book/reserve it. I'm hoping nothing happens with that rate. That is a great rate!

I also got a 125 rate from dollar for a week! I used the entertain code. its for an intermediate car, now once they add all of their fees on it will come to $164! But its still better than any other rate I have found.

If you plug in the dates of 11/30 through 12/7 with a Orlando pick up and return and use the Entertain code you can get an economy car for 99.00 for the week from Dollar.. Good rates are out there...

We go at least 2-3 times a yr and always rent a car. It is much more convenient. You can still use the busses for the theme parks if you would like.;)
