Opinion on New Space Mountain?

It was so long ago that i don't remember riding the old version but i love the new one. My wife and i could not get enough of it. We both love the dark rollercoasters as long as you are squeezed in pretty tight. We must have ridden it at least 6 times in the 2 visits to MK while we were there.

I'm not a fan of Space Mountain. Probably for the same reasons that I don't like RnRC. So very dark.........don't like not knowing where I am going.

The *only* reason I still go on Space is because it is the only roller coaster that DH will go on.

Darker, huh? Funny, because when I rode it for the first time since the redo in February, I sat in the front and was annoyed because I could see everything that was coming. I even mentioned to my DH that they made it brighter and I don't ever remember being able to see the rails before. :confused3

A few months ago, I went on it for the first time, so I don't really have anything to compare it to. I rather liked it. Though it scared me at first, I liked not seeing where I was going because it meant I didn't have much time to be afraid of what was happening next. I didn't really think it was too rough. I really enjoyed it. I did notice that I couldn't see it from TTA as well as I could the last time I'd been to Disney.

The ride is NOT as smooth as the Disneyland Space Mountain. I was really disappointed that with the refurbishment it was not brought "up to snuff." My coaster loving husband complained of neck pain and now only our teens will ride it.

I like the old version much better, especially the queue area. I enjoyed seeing the glow in the dark strips on the rockets.

I really wanted to like the changes, but I don't.

I was bored when I rode it the first time! This year it was much zippier. Scared me a little at first but I loved it! This is the first time I actually remember loving Space Mountain.

I do understand about the seats though. My mother has bad knees and she can't sit that low so it's a struggle for her to get in and out. She said this was the last year she was going to ride it- it was much too hard for her. I don't think she likes the new version anyway.

I'm perplexed. Many of you say it feels faster, jerkier, etc., but my understanding was that all of the updates were purely cosmetic., rather than changing the actual structure of the track. Unless the track itself has been altered, which I didn't think it has, it's impossible for the ride itself to run any faster or jerkier, as it's a gravity-based coaster.

I will not ride it at night because your eyes adjust somewhat to the dark and you can see more at night when on a dark coaster. I do not like heights. So the darker ride is better in my opinion. Now I will go on it with my kids where I wouldn't before.

I think people are saying it feels faster and jerker because it is darker now and they can't see the track to prepare themselves for the movements.

we went the other day, and it was my first time. I totally expected something different, and didn't like it at all. I got off and had the thought of "why do so many people like that?"

It is too dark, with nothing to look at. the seats were comfy... but I was too busy leaning forward to hold my 5.5 year olds shoulders as he was freaked out because of how dark it was too.

This is no longer one that we like. Half the fun is seeing where you are going a little , a least a little bit.

My issue is that as tall as I am, I'm pretty much just being held in by my inner thighs because I have to spread my legs so wide in order to squeeze them into the ride and around the T-bar (my usual lap-bar trick in limited leg room coasters when I basically cross my feet doesn't work because of the T-bar in the middle). In the past, I could see a little bit and therefore us my upper body to brace myself for the little drops so all the force wasn't put directly on the little part of my legs touching the T-bar. now since I can't see anything, it's much harder to do that, so my legs are MUCH more sore after the ride.

That being said.... I don't know if i'd change my ride habits for this. Ever since i've started going back after the seat belts were replaced with the T-bar, I maybe might sneak on a single ride or 2 on a trip... but anymore than that just isn't worth it due to the pain and difficulty getting out of the vehicle.
