Opening Ceremonies

Anyone else excited about the Opening Ceremonies tonight?

While I am, as a rule, not fond of China's record on Human Rights and the Environment, I still love the Olympics! I so look forward to it every 2 years.

Is anyone doing anything special this evening? The ceremonies start on TV (tape delayed, I know) in 2 hours at my house. We are having friends over for an "Opening Ceremonies party". We are going to make Chinese food... stir-fry noodles and veggies, beef-and-broccoli, egg rolls, potstickers, etc. and watch the festivities. (We need an "eating noodles with chopsticks smiley guy!)

This afternoon, the kids and I made Chinese Lanterns out of construction paper to decorate the house, and watched Mulan to get ourselves in the spirit.

We got it live this morning. It's beautiful. Really something. I'm watching it again right now. Our network is replaying it all.

Toronto and Beijing were the last two cities for 2008. I would have loved the Olympics. But honestly, I don't think we could have put on such a show as they are right now. It's incredible. The precision and peacefulness of it all is amazing.

I can't believe there were people inside those boxes doing the movements with such precision . Before the people were revealed, my husband and I had even rewound our Tivo and watched in slow motion and had decided it had to be mechanical with computers. That was incredible .
