Open Port Orleans Already!-Opening OCT 14th & 28th!!!!

Considering that I've been checking prices and they are welll beyond our means (what???? for some places 600+ a night!!!) I don't think we'll be returning any time soon. Does anyone know why things have become so very expensive? There must be many rich people going is all I can say-for these prices we can rent a car, drive to New Orleans and experience the real French Quarter for a few nights instead of one at WDW's resorts! It's sad, because we had hoped to return this year, but doesn't seem at all likely.
I so agree, the prices are shocking, especially for deluxe. We stayed at Beach Club for ~$380 a night in 2016. We are paying over $200/night for All Star Movies this year. Beach Club is $679/night for our dates this year.

Because of the 50th *yearlong* celebration, (and the pent-up demand for travel, plus, well… Disney) I am personally budgeting for $300 to $350 per night for POFQ when it reopens.

I expect that will drop off some after the holiday season; we have the luxury of being able to travel in early January, and so typically we get to see almost all of the Christmas decor without all of the holiday crowds, and lower prices as well.

I'm willing to pay $300-350.
The only moderate open for my dates was Coronado at $298 and CBR Pirate Room for (I think) ~$350 a night. I wasn't interested in either, so Movies it is. Now I might have booked a regular CBR room but those were already booked.
Anyway, yes I'm willing to pay the above for Port Orleans.
Take my money Disney. Haha!

I know everyone has different experiences, but we have stayed at POR numerous times and never had bus problems. They were no slower than other resorts, IMO. However we tend to go to WDW at "off" times, so maybe that's why? I wouldn't be afraid of the buses at POR at all. It is such a beautiful resort and has everything going for it.
I agree. Transportation issues can and does happen at all the resorts, buses, monorail, boats and skyliner. We do not even think about the resort transportation when we pick a resort to stay at. Plus, I cannot even tell you how many posts I have read where 1 person said transportation was horrible and someone else at the same resort during the same time, said it was great. LOL

When do they take decorations down.? We are going in December but im tempted to change to
January. I do like seeing the decorations and the going to the party though (if they have it)

What i paid for Animal Kingdom and Boardwalk just 2 or 3 years ago to what they are
charging now is insane. Im tempted to scrap the whole thing and wait until next year.

Interesting when i called Cast member to put deposits down she told me she thinks the
prices will stay for now then level off maybe next summer. She said the 50th will be celebrated
for 18 months. Huh? im one of the few probably who doesnt care about 50th anniversary. I honestly
didn't even know about it until i read it recently on a post here.

it seems to vary every year. Disney Springs seems to come down the fastest (the Christmas Tree Trail is alway long gone before we get there) but most of the Parks will have their holiday decorations up until (on average) at least Jan 4th; we have seen it as late as the 7th at HS and AK before. The Resort hotel trees and decor come down based on a schedule known only to CMs LOL but most of the time we have been able to see it if checked in by the 3rd, and have seen it at several hotels as late as the 4th. We generally Resort hop early in our stays, and then revisit a few select favorites again later in the trip.

In years past, we would have Park Hoppers, and check in on January 2nd, and spend the 2nd, 3rd and 4th running around looking at Christmas decor at all 4 Parks, and our favorite Resort hotels. Generally speaking by January 7th, it’s all gone. We missed our annual family January trip this year - we were all set to go, and I had to have emergency spine surgery that I am still recovering from.

While being able to see the Christmas decor is fun, generally speaking by the time we get there, I am mentally and emotionally ready to move into the new year LOL; if we were to arrive and it was already packed away, I would be fine with that too - getting to see it is just a “bonus extra” for us. Additionally there are some downsides to traveling right after the Christmas season; Although you may find that there are fewer people at the Resort in general, it has been our experience that CMs tend to be busy cleaning up after the holiday week crowds, and things are generally speaking in a pretty rough shape because of all the traffic that everything has just received. It’s still Disney World, but it’s also a different vibe than you get during the holiday week, and some Guests will be upset - as one woman complained (very loudly) during our last trip in Jan 2020, to a waitress at Garden Grill in EPCOT: “If youse ain’t gonna show me the Christmas spirit, youse should take down the damn tinsel ever-where already”

We travel in January because most of my family has anxiety issues (and other issues) that simply are not compatible with holiday week-level crowds. By myself, I could easily deal with it - but the Magic of Disney is best when shared with those you love ❤.

And now back to our regularly scheduled topic: OPEN PORT ORLEANS ALREADY!

I too am booked at movies but would pay the higher rate for FQ

We’re booked at the Swan for a long December weekend. I still refuse to believe POFQ won’t be open by then! Fingers crossed. I won’t lie - I check twice a day:)

Favorite resort: POFQ, I also love the mansions at POR. Quiet, relaxing, feeling like I'm in Apocalypse Now when the boat goes just past the Treehouse Villas at night. I don't enjoy the hub-bub of the deluxe resorts even though I eat at them. We spend little time in the room, but still, the values just aren't for me.
Resorts I really have little to no desire to stay at:
- CSR
- CBR
- AKL
The main reason for all three? Size/transportation.
Where are we "stuck" the first weekend in December? CBR Just under $400/night with taxes for a preferred room. Good thing I booked that last week, now $864/night for a tower suite.
Almost tempted to switch to AKL for $500/night standard in case Boma opens and we can at least eat breakfast there everyday.
Of course, if PO opens I would switch in a heartbeat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Come on WDW....Open Port Orleans.

I’m booked split stay Beach Club and Poly in October. Would love love FQ to reopen! I’d book that in a heartbeat. It’s my favorite resort as a solo traveler. Not that I ever feel unsafe while at Disney, just something about it’s quaintness and coziness makes it even better. Especially walking through the resort at night.

I live outside of NO and I would rather spend $600 a night in WDW, at least I would feel safer at POFQ, then taking the chance of being shot, carjacked, or robbed in NOLA FQ.

Even before the 50th, we were looking just under $300 for a POR Preferred room

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but......we have never been in early January before. Usually go late FEb and early March. How is it at that time for you???
Just curious. thanks.

Sorry, Mamabunny: I just scrolled down and saw your great response to another poster about your trips in January. Sounds awesome.:rolleyes2:rolleyes2

Come on Disney. You can close Coronado and Caribbean Beach I don’t care, just please open one of your most stunning resorts. At least open the walkways and shop. I just want to walk amongst the beauty. It’s been a staple of all my trips to visit there and walk the grounds. I’m begging you! Anyone else with me?
