I think one of the greatest losses because of the writers strike is the lack of a SNL holiday special. It's one of the true highlights of the season for me. Some of my best Christmas memories have to do with SNL skits.
I didn't actually see the Santa/Boyfriend song last year, but I have to say many, many lols came from me.
SNL seems to strike the right cord with so many people when it comes to the holiday season. They're able to balance their humor with respect for the traditions and memories that so many of us cherish. It's perfect for so many who don't have 'perfect' holiday memories, but cherish them all the same.
For example:
-tonight/last year Justin Timberlake doing the Chipmunks song complete with the inflections and pauses that we all know and love.
-The claymation a few years ago using classic Motown sounds and discussing what 'Christmas time for the Jews' is like.
- The classic Christmas wish segment with Steve Martin...whose wishes get a little out of hand.
Not sure how Schweaty Balls fits into all of that, but it's my alltime favorite.
