Onocology nurses????Need help/advise!!

I am seriously thinking of making a huge career move. I have been a psych nurse for the last 7 years. I need out,its just getting way too dangerous.
I am interested in onocology, I did one year clinical rotation on an oncology floor. I am needing support/advise...etc... This is a huge and SCARY move for me to make. I am going completly out of my comfort zone.


I am sooo scared and nervous...please good and happy thoughts about nursing. The position I am applying for is part time and 7 P to 7 A.

Hi there- I was a long time psych nurse too... started in geri psych then did adult and then got to be director of a geriatric psych day program-

in 2003 I did the biggest career move- and quit all together with plans to work for dh in his business but about 2 months into my stay at home mom career- I got pregnant and had severe morning sickness...

a year later when baby is born and it is time for me to return to work- I started looking and found a research job- I do clinical drug trials for new medications- and love it.

I only do Cardiology and Oncology trials- and I was terrified of doing the oncology- it is not an area of nursing one gets much exposure too- so I was really worried- but I have to say it is very enjoyable part of my work- and the oncology nurses I work with are great- they genuinely love and care for their patients when they are in the office- and really go the extra mile for it.

Go for it- career moves in nursing are a good thing- and aren't we fortunate that we are in a profession that you can really pick and choose many different things to do to find a niche- and we also have the ability to work almost anywhere if needed.
