Only having DDP for part of stay?

Hi everyone,

Sorry if this is a silly question or has already been asked before, but we are staying at POFQ for two weeks in June on our first trip to WDW. We have been weighing up whether to pay for the Disney Dining Plan or not, but think that having it for the entire two weeks would work out quite expensive as we're not sure we would use all of our credits. We plan on spending a couple of days at Universal, and wouldn't want to get the dining plan just for the sake of it, as this might end up being more expensive than not having it. Is it at all possible to have the dining plan just for half the stay or does it have to be for the entire stay?

Thank you! :goodvibes

No question is silly!

If you have one reservation, then yes, the Dining Plan is all or none.
The only way to get the Dining Plan for 1/2 the stay - is to break up your stay into 2 separate reservations.
If you do choose to get the Dining Plan, you may want to consider trying some of the signature places that use 2 credits. That way your Universal day credits won't go to waste.

Hi! Agree with above PP. But, just wanted to add that splitting up your reservation into 2 (one with DP and one room only) adds a potential headache to your vacation. We have stayed at both POR and POFQ several times with 2 reservations (back to back; always because we get free dining but arrive before it starts). Anyway, I find it stressful (you might not) to ponder these things while on vacation: (a) they do not guarantee you will get the same room for the 2nd reservation (I always have; despite that, it still stresses me out - packing and unpacking to move is not worth saving money to me!); (b) you will have 2 different confirm numbers (again, might not bother most people, but its more to keep track of); (c) Disney requires so much pre-planning to start with - I don't want to add having to book the expensive TS meals for when I'm on the DP.

Again, the stress from these things might not matter to you. I would rather just pay for the DP the entire trip, or do room only and pay OOP. One reservation, one room, eat the TS meals when you wish, etc... (Frankly, if I wasn't on free dining, and was going to Universal for a day or two, I'd just pay OOP but that's another topic.)

We are doing a split stay BC/AKL. If I only get the DP for the first half, correct me if Im wrong, my DP is good till Midnight of the day I check out of the first. I don't lose it once I check in at the second? Does this make sense?

Can't do this without a split stay (2 reservations). I'd actually consider doing 2 stays and then going to stay at a Universal resort (one that gives you front of the line) before coming back to WDW for a second stay. But I don't need to buy tickets with the Disney reservations. I woudn't actually bother with the dining plan either.

Yes, exactly. You won't lose it until midnight.
