My kids are 10 and 6, both tall enough for everything. Can I go on Splash Mountain with both of them? Can my son sit alone with a stranger? How about for 7DMT?

When I took both my kids without my DH(he's a non-Disney poopy-head) I usually sat with the stranger and let my kids sit together. Sometimes we would trade off, but 90% of the time it was me alone on the 2 seat rides.

Your 10 year old can ride alone. I haven't been to WDW since 7DMT opened, but from what I've read, he'll most likely have a stranger sit next to him since the ride is too popular to allow empty seats. On Splash though, he should be able to get a row to himself. (I always go solo to WDW and I've never had to share a row with someone on Splash.)

On Splash Mountain you can all squeeze into 1 seat or they will probably allow you to have the 10 year old sit by himself (I think you must be 7 to ride alone). You will either have 1 or 2 rows of the log to yourself they won't add a stranger in.

On 7DMT the 10 year old will be able to sit in the row in front of or behind you but they will do their best to add a stranger into his row- unless there are no single riders and no other odd parties around you.

7 to ride alone, so your oldest is fine on any ride that makes you split up.
Under 7 must ride with a 14 or older guest, so the boys are not to ride together without you.
We are often odd numbers, and it works out fine.
Have fun :goodvibes

Why not have your kids sit together, and you sit alone?

Disney rules are if they are under 7 they must be sitting with someone 14 and older. I seen it enforced many times.

Most rides it won't even be a problem with how seating is set up. They would be "close together" anyway.

We've done SR (with kids) on many attractions. I wouldn't worry about it.

For the most part (at least all the rides I can think of), any time the 10Yr old WOULD be with another rider, they will be in completely separate seats. As in with individual restraints.

Any attractions with (smallish) bench seating (BTMRR), they won't seat you with a stranger. Shows and attractions with very large bench seats they will, (GMR, Ellen's Energy) or at least MAY.

Further, keep in mind- unless you specifically use the Single rider queue, at worst- you'll be sitting in the very next row. You won't be far apart. (the 6yo can't do SR, but the 10 year old could if you wish to skip something.)

Some posters also mention Space Mtn. The vehicles are all single seat rows. You can't ride side by side.

But first and foremost, the CM's will generally TELL you what to do.

I've been taking my kids solo since they were 4 and 6, and I wouldn't stress! Most times we all sat together. Sometimes they sat together & I must have been in front or back. That was a long time ago, so I only recall it being so much fun! My DH isn't as big into Disney, so comes basically every 4th trip or so. It's so easy to bring young kids there! We had a great time, and now some trips lately it's just me and DD and we love it!

Thanks for all the replies! I'm actually okay if a stranger sits with my older one as I'd be right there. I just wanted to prepare him for it. So glad this will work out!

.

at WDW splash is a 2 side by side setter at DL it is one in front of the other.

as fair as 7DMT the last 2 times I went to disney I sat by my self a number of times so there might still be doing this.

I think you could let them ride together if you are right there with them. The CMs always just asked "how many" and then said something like "2 on 4 and 1 on 3". It was up to us how we divided. Also, the single rider on our last trip always rode alone on Splash, Thunder, and 7D. I guess your experience could be different but that was ours. Have a great trip!

Great. It really is no big deal. Personally, I'm not sure it is even worth discussing with most kids, unless they have a specific concern.

HOWEVER, one thing you may want to take a few moments to prep OTHER logistics of the trip. One parent with two kids does poses a few (potential) challenges.

1. Luggage. Personally, I'd prep everyone to lend a hand moving from one place to another (airport).
2. No running off. It is wise to consider holding hands at times in busy areas of the parks and post-parades/fireworks/big shows.
3. Endurance. Say, if one of you needs a nap, sending one of you all the way back to the hotel alone isn't really an option. The better you work as team, the more everyone gets to do.

Maybe something like the 10 year old helps the 6 year old get dressed while you shower, as opposed to playing video games and leaving you to do all the work. Maybe consider options like taking turns with the bag/backpack. Or maybe it is the 6year old's job to hold the hotel room door when entering/exiting with luggage. Little helps like that really add up.

4. bathroom breaks. Our rule is: if one goes, more or less, everyone tries. (Or at the very least, uses the time constructively.)

5. There is always a small chance that a ride will stop. If a guest does something dumb, like trying to get out of a moving car, then the staff has to stop the ride for their own safety. Rarely malfunctions can happen. Most rides stops are very short, but very rarely, rides do get evacuated. Kids should know what to do if they happen.

Yes...but Space is still single seats, as the poster you quoted indicated.
