This is so stupid. We all go to restaurants. There is no major problem of people bringing in ziploc bags and hoarding food and sneaking it out. Has it happened? I don’t know. Frankly I don’t care. Disneys restaurants are doing fine and even if they were not policies like this won’t help. That is not how you treat customers in a restaurant and I 100% agree with pp that I’d have walked out.

My grandparents bought dvc in the early 90s and I still have those points. We have bought additional ones as well. Before that we visited frequently and we still enjoy staying club level. I’ve spent ample time at Disney over the last 35-40 years. I have fabulous memories, magical memories there. Unfortunately every time we go it’s just a little bit less. This on its own is just kind of ****ty but it’s like add it to the list of increased cost and decreased value. We go in September for the first time since 2019 and everything I read or price out seems to disappoint me.

I would have walked out

That can be hard to do with others, kids especially, considering it's not that convenient to immediately get somewhere else and everyone's usually pretty hungry by the time you do get to a meal at Disney. That said, when I'm solo, I have done that on a couple of occasions when bizarre things like that happened (not this specifically, but comparably inane situations). I also refuse to eat unacceptably poor quality food, too. Personally, I'd have no problem cancelling the order mid-prep if given hassle about being served an additional roll. Even if they decided to 'make an exception', that's not an appropriate way to treat a guest. "Sorry you had to throw away that entree; guess you should've brought me another roll."

We (party of 8) went to beaches and cream last fall and were served severely overcooked and dried out hamburgers, each with about 6 carefully counted (and cold) steak fries, as if they were made of platinum or something. They're cheap "angus" patties to begin with (far cry from how good that place used to be) and when they replace the entire staff with people who can't even properly grill them, this is what happens. I calmly paid and went to front desk and had a nice chat with the hotel manager who resolved it for me. I assure you, it takes a LOT for me to get to that point, but this was a completely gross and inedible meal in every way.

Last October, I went solo to whispering canyon cafe. I took one small bite of each meat from the skillet, then just got up and left. (Left $5 cash for the server; wasn't her fault.) None of it was edible. The quality is already mediocre to begin with and it had clearly been sitting for quite a while. I'm sure they're understaffed and thus have to prep them in bulk, but they should just not seat people instead of serving them inedible slop.

And of course there's Tony's Town Square, but I don't want to spoil anyone's dinner...

Did the waiter mention if it was all you care to eat? I've heard that it wasn't even though everyone gets the same platter. Either way I think they should be allowed to give you as much bread as you want.

DME menu doesn't say AYCTE. Is it possible you can only get seconds of anything? Famiky style is traditionally all yoi care to eat.

Ah I hope they don't start limiting the rolls and honey butter at Olivia's. I'm in the UK and we can't get honey butter. I dream about eating those rolls with more honey butter on them than is probably good for me!

Used to work for a restaurant that put two tiny, mini corn muffins on certain entrees. We weren't allowed to serve more than those two mini's without telling the customer they would have to pay extra. It was embarrassing and difficult, especially because the place had previously served more without an upcharge. That place of business is no longer in business. They've been gone a long while.

It's just sort of insulting to the customer who is paying for the meal and paying a decent price at that. It wasn't like those mini corn muffins were breaking the bank. The loss of customers, sure did though.

I agree a roll should have replaced.
I have been told by a waiter at Boma and seen with my own eyes people do in fact bring bags and containers. we are not big buffet people stopped after the big price increases. But did frequent Germany, Boma maybe 4 times cape may around the same. On more than one occasion we have seen food taken. On the other hand at WC the waiter packed up what was left which was not much but I guess better than it being tossed. Disney makes a good profit however I am sure they have percentage they must meet and if that does not happen….. cuts are made to something and obviously this was something that had to have been an issue.

Yeah that's why I'm wondering if you can get extra entrees or desserts. At most Disney restaurants the answer would be yes.

Are you sure about that? There's nothing on Disney's webpage that says that. It's a fix-prixe meal yes but there's nothing that says AYCTE, Unlimited or otherwise. Honestly if I were to read the description I would assume it's 1 of each although for rolls that's common to refill. None of the blogs call out Sebastian's as AYCTE or Unlimited.

Family style also doesn't mean AYCTE, it just means how the food is presented. At La Hacienda in Epcot the rice and beans were served family style in a bowl to be passed around. We also learned chips were no included any more there they were $6 IIRC.

Sebastian's is also $29 for adults and for Disney that's priced incredibly low, no way would I think I could have unlimited.

Is the issue a replacement of a roll vs another serving?

Like 2 people 1 roll drops so another serving would equal 2 vs a replacement of just the 1 that dropped. Or 4 people and 1 dropped so another serving would equal 4 vs a replacement of just the 1.

I can understand the system tracking if that's how they want to do it (although feels asinine for rolls) and I can understand they bring out only as many as are seated at the table but if serving means an entire new order of rolls could that be the issue or at least a big part of it? Of course the replacement could be denied too just trying to think about instances at restaurants in general where that specific phrasing very much mattered.

To clarify, Sebastian's Bistro is a family-style meal that is supposed to be unlimited meats, salad, sides, dessert, and bread. Children 3-9 are $17/child. The only thing we ever asked for another serving was bread. We weren't trying to skimp by not buying an entree, nor were we gorging and bringing ziploc bags. The server was noticeably embarrassed by having to tell us about their bread policy and he apologized; he was a decent server and I don't have any other complaints about him. Apparently, servers are required to request all food in their system and then it's brought by a runner; so, every single portion is documented and accounted for. It won't let him request more than 1 extra serving of rolls per table and the manager would need to override it for him- even if your preschooler drops his/her piece and isn't interested in the mojo pork, kale salad, or cilantro rice. I miss the less bureaucratic Disney magic of yore.

Reading this all I can think of is how every time I eat at Chipotle I ask for a side of sour cream and it's always free because...you know...it's sour cream. But to each business their own I guess. The needing approval to get a replacement is the crazy part. Maybe these rolls were being abused I have no idea...two per person isn't the end of the world but yeah you really screw with the magic when you're not brought another roll for a child...I mean...it's literally a place that caters to kids.
