I know this has been discussed recently, but I'm having no luck with search right now.

My husband and I are considering getting our master's degrees online. He is military, and he says that Liberty University is very military friendly. Does anyone here have experience or know about Liberty University?

I don't know about Liberty. I'm getting my degree (Master's of Science in Education) at St. Joseph's college of Maine with their online program. They have a very teacher-friendly program, and offer other degrees, too. It's self paced so I can still work and have a life without devoting every second of free time to schoolwork.

Do you mind sharing what you are interested in getting your degree in? I have nothing against Liberty (in fact, my husband took some courses there), but it is a private university, so you may be able to get it cheaper elsewhere.

Both my husband and I got our M.S. degrees online, and I highly recommend it! :thumbsup2 My only suggestion is to be sure it is accredited by the appropriate regional acrrediting authority (which is probably only going to be actual brick and mortar universities).

Good luck!

I recommend University of Maryland's University College. They have a great on-line program and it's also well-respected.

I'm not sure which degree you are interested in but I am in an online program through Gonzaga University in Organizational Leadership and at least a third of my classmates in any given course are usually military. I think its a great program

Your husbands base education office should have lots of info for you.

MBA. Either he will or I will do this, possibly using the post 9/11 GI Bill benefit. He was the one that mentioned Liberty, I guess because of the military. I want to make sure it is a good school, not a "bought" degree.

I took online undergrad classes at University of Maryland University College and presently at City University of Seattle. Both are military friendly and like a pp said, around 1/3rd of my classmates, if not more are in the military.

I had a co-worker that took some counseling classes through Liberty. She ended up switching schools because she didn't feel that she was learning what she needed to in order to pass the state licensure (sp?) exam.

I think University of Maryland University College is widely used by the military. I think any military member or spouse can pay the in state rate for tuition, I remember reading that somewhere. Also it is a well respected school because it is associated with the University of Maryland System.

I am sorry I don't know about Liberty University. I do, however, know quite a few active and retired military who are getting degrees through both Norwich and Capella universities. Both have excellent programs from what I've read and I can't knock the education benefit gained by those finishing their Bachelor's or Master's degrees there.

I am also looking at pursuing my Master's and these are the two I am considering closely.

Best of luck in your search and in getting your degrees. :thumbsup2 :

Actually it is the University System of Maryland. It is not a part of the University of Maryland.
It used to be many years ago.

Mississippi State University has an online MBA. Someone I knew a couple of years ago was married to a pilot who was in the program. He was very pleased with it. You/he would only pay in-state tuition.

Here's a link to the MBA program:

The online M.S. in Geosciences that my husband and I completed was through MSU too. We had quite a few military members in our classes. ::yes::

Good luck! :goodvibes

Yeah sorry that's what I meant. It's part of the system that includes the public universities in MD.

We were just researching Park University - they have some courses on military bases. I read on another message board that they are very military friendly and offer free/reduced tuition and scholarships. Anyone know anything about this one?
