I have never used online check-in. I have always enjoyed that personal interaction with the front desk and the opportunity to change our assigned room if our requests weren’t originally accommodated. However, I realize online check-in is probably the better option when we arrive later this week. What have been your experiences? Have you found that special requests are less likely to be granted? Any issue requesting a different room if they were not? For what it’s worth, we arrive on 12/29 and are spending one night in a Copper Creek studio followed by 8 nights in a 1 bedroom at Kidani.

We've used online check-in often, and most of the time it works really well. But with regards to getting your room requests the week between Christmas and NY's, I would expect there might not be anything more they could do for you at the front desk than you'll get via online check-in. It's probably going to be very full at CC and Kidani. But if you do online check-in, it still doesn't mean you can't go to the front desk, if you would like that option. The front desk will be able to see your assigned room, but won't share that room number with you until it's ready. But they might let you know if it meets any of your requests, and you could find out if there are any options for change should you need it. Your actual room is going to be assigned for you a day or 2 before your check-in date.

Thank you for the insights. I realize the chances of getting our requests are diminished when the resorts are so busy. Fingers crossed!

I really like online check-in and have frequently used it. My requests have usually been honored as long as they were made in advance of the check-in process. Typically, my requests are things like floor number or room location, etc. and are not requests that are not likely to be avaliable, such as a room upgrade. As such, these requests are consistent with the room category that I have reserved. Other requests that have worked well have been those associated with a multi-room booking and room locations in that circumstance.

I‘ve used online check-in with room requests at both WL and AKL. Usually, online check-in allows me to completely bypass the front desk, which is very nice. However, I’ve had no issues with going to the front desk on arrival if I wish to discuss the room once I arrive and prior to room assignment or room entry (after online check-in). They are very friendly and accessible. In the current COVID era, I don’t think that you would likely be able to enter your room then switch to another soley upon realizing that a request wasn’t honored or available (which is not what you are asking).

I think you should do what feels comfortable to you, however. If you’re not comfortable with the online check-in, the front desk will be there for you and remains a great option.

I love the DVC resorts where you are staying - Have a wonderful vacation!
