Online check-in

I reserved a studio at AKV for family (I am not going with them) and noticed in my DVC upcoming vacations that online check-in is now available. Is this something I have to do for them since I am the DVC member or can they do it since they linked the reservation in MDE? Do you need your magicbands to do online check-in?

No you do not have to do the online check-in for them or at any time.
You can always check-in at the front desk upon arrival.
Since it is linked to the your families MDE, they can do the online check-in if they so choose.
As for MBs, your family should of already customized them and most likely will be in the mail within a couple of weeks. No they do not have to have MBs to do online check-in, it is just easier if they do have the MBs, so they can by-pass going to the front desk to get them before going straight to the room.
Things that you will have to do for them if they require it:
DPs set-up and pay for.
DME not MDE.
