Online check-in

If you have already filled in the API forms then all of the information should already be there. If you haven't then if I remember rightly all you need is the name, date of birth and passport numbers for each person. Once you have filled that in you will have an opportunity to look at the seat maps and, if there is anything better available, you can change your seats if you want to.

You do have the option to print out boarding passes but if you can't/don't want to you can pick them up at the airport instead.

When you get to the airport just go to the bag drop desks where they will check your passports, label your luggage and give you your boarding passes if you haven't already got them.

Thanks for the information, could i just ask one more quick question, how does the seat selection work, we have already pre-booked our seats so if we wanted to change them do we have to delete the ones we have already selected?

If you select different seats it will automatically release the previously reserved ones into the system and hold the new ones you have checked.

Sorry to hi-jack, and maybe I'm being daft, but what are API forms? :confused3 We're thinking of checking in online too, so it'd be nice to know where we are up to with the process.

API is Advance Passenger Information and consists of your name, date of birth, passport number, country of citizenship and address where you will be spending your first night in the US. If you log in to the Virgin Atlantic website you will find it in the "Manage Your Booking" section.

Are you flying with virgin Rachel? x

Advanced Passenger Information System. They basically ask your nationality and purpose of your visit. To be frank I think the options for the answers are somewhat cryptic and I have just done my API at check in (apparently - I don't actually recall doing it at all but must have).

Yes Tasha, we're with Virgin. I think that was the only option we were given when booking with Signature. Who are you flying with?

Thank-you Wickesy :thumbsup2 I understand now. I'd better start looking into things I think, just so we know were we're up too. I've done our ESTA's on-line, but I've not been on the Virgin site at all. Maybe I should go and see :lmao:

Talking about the APIS when we went in 2008 some guy asked me about it at check in and i didnt know the address for POP he was being quite rude and nasty i ended up bawling my eyes out and then some woman helped me, i think it was because i was so excited and he ruined it for me x

Can't remember the odd questions off the top of my head, but did you put in your nationality as "other" and purpose of visit as "staying in the USA"? The only reason I haven't done it is I found the Qs and As odd.

Tell me about it, I've just nipped on now and by looking at it, there's no seats at all together?? :sad2: I cannot fly that far without someone I know sat next to me, it's not very fair.

I'm on the phone tomorrow.......

I'm sure i read somewhere they block aload of seats off for check in hun, TA will probs sort it for you x

I'll call tomorrow and see.

I hope you're right about them blocking off a certain amount of seats. I need at least one person next to me I know, as I'm a terrible flyer and need a little support there.

I was thinking that maybe they'll do the blocks, as what if a family turn up at the airport to be told they can't sit with their kids? That'd be crazy!

Only 60% of seats are released for 'pre-requests' and the rest become available 24 hours before departure time so you will be able to get seats together when you do online check-in. :thumbsup2
