Is it possible to do on-line check-in and then just drop your bags off later at twilight check-in?

That's how we do it as well :goodvibes

Depends upon who you are flying with but we have done this both with BA and Virgin. Wrls very well for us, and staying at a hotel that night at the airport removes the stress and worry travelling up the day of the flight

Sorry to hijack but do you have to do it online? Only asking as may not have access to a printer the day before the flight

No, you don't have to use the on-line check-in. It just gives you an earlier opportunity to confirm your seat allocation and saves time at the airport as you just need to drop your bags off.

When you do online checkin you don't have to print anything off, we always do it and don't have a printer.

We currently have a hotel booked for the night before, just me and the kids £170 includes breakfast - no parking.

We have to get a cab which is going to be £250 return.

I am currently debating whether to ditch the hotel and just get the cab about 5.30 in the morning - flight is 11.15 and its approx 2 hour drive to Gatwick. We are travelling PE so I believe have dedicated check-in. However, it slightly un-nerves me the thought of travelling down on the day. What if the cab breaks down etc. Is it worth the worry to save the £170.

The alternative is for me to drive and park the car but hubby not keen on this because of the return journey.

Help me make a decision folks.

Have booked a family room in Auora Gatwick (hubby and I stayed there last year when we went away for our first ever holiday without the kids and it was fabulous). Of course staying there without the aid of our car means limited amount of toiletries etc in handluggage. Also will have the added cost of an evening meal for me and the kids.

Really? I assumed we had to print boarding passes etc. Can we do these at the airport then?

When you take your bags to the bag drop they will print them off there, you should defintely do online check-in as you will be able to secure your seats :goodvibes

I prefer to stay at the airport, its nice to drop your bags off the night before, have a meal out in the evening and then not have to get up at the crack of dawn! When we used to travel down in the morning for the 11am flight we were shattered by the time we finally got to Orlando. If you can afford it personally I would stay, if you need the money for spends on holiday then go on the day :goodvibes

Just out of interest where do you live? £250 for a taxi seems a lot of money! I live about 90 minutes from Gatwick and its about £100 return! I would rather drive than spend £250 on a taxi!

Yes we have always stayed over the night before which is why I am a bit un-nerved about coming down on the day. We live in Northampton and I have been quote between £120 - £150 each way.

Thanks definately going to now! Is it 24 hours before your flight that online opens or 24 hours before when your check in would be (i.e. for a 1pm flight would it be 1pm the day before or 11am the day before)?
