Online ADR and party size

With the online adr system it asks for the party size. If I put in 2 it will show none available for Kona on 9/17, however if I change it to 4, they have tables available. I even called Disney and they said none available for 2.

What happens if I book it online for 4 and only 2 of us show up? Is this possible? I don't understand why it limits it like this. Please don't flame me, I'm just asking why and if it can be booked this way.

I am unsure exactly why, but here is my guess....

they have a 4, 5, or 6 top table(s) open and are keeping them open in hopes that a family that size will fill them. All 2 top tables are probably full.

Although, I do wonder how many 2 top tables in restaurants, I would think 4 tops would out number them.

Now that I am thinking about it, it is unfair, b/c you have a smaller party you CAN'T get a table ALTHOUGH tables are available?

Am I making sense?

You could always call, maybe you'll have a better outcome, maybe there is even a glitch in the system.

We have, in the past, scheduled ADR's for larger parties, and part of our group decided not to go eat. The restaurants at WDW have never turned us away. When they asked if our entire party had arrived, we simply said, "Yes." If I were you, I'd make ADR's for 4, and just tell a little white lie if they press you about it. Just say, "the rest of our group was too tired to continue their day at Disney!" They hear it all the time, I assure you.

Just realize that you may have to wait a little longer if you come with 2 rather than 4. We did that at Le Cellier and had to wait about 45 minutes until a 2 top was available.
