Just arrived home this evening after spending a week at WDW.

We left after work on Friday and made it to Hilton Head, called Member Services on the way and there was a studio available. I have only stayed there one other time, early January a couple of years ago, only about 20 people in the whole resort, and they gave me in the handicapped studio right around the corner from check-in. Well, guess what they tried to give me again !!! When he said, your room is really, really close, I said not the one around the corner on the right, he said yes, I said no thank you, and he found me another one in the lodge building. Arrived late and left early the next morning, so nothing more really to report there.

First night in WDW, Saturday, we spent at Pop Century. I loved it. I cannot tell you why, but it is very different than AllStars to me. I would not hesitate to stay there again, and I really cannot stand the AllStars any more.

Sunday we checked in to OKW around 8:30 or so in the morning and the room was ready, yeah, and we were in room 5426. I loved this location. It is close to a quiet pool and laundry and ice and just a building away from a bus stop. We had our own transportation and did not mind being away from HH. I have decided this is my new favorite spot at OKW. The room was clean, looked like a new refrigerator and new drapes and we had no complaints, except that there seemed to be a tremendous amount of maintenace of sorts going on and the very early morning noise was annoying. Also, the room was a lockoff and I heard the folks on the other side try to open the connecting door several times.

Friday night we checked into the Wilderness Lodge for one night. Not the Villas, but the Lodge. Nice room, very close to lobby. Loved walking into the lobby of that grand hotel. However, I truly disliked the SMALL room, compared to OKW. I heard every commode in the building flush at one time or another and the children running and screaming up and down the hall were a real annoyance. Not sure where the parents were, but it was very inconsiderate of them to allow the kids to be making this kind of noise at 11:30 at night.

We have always stayed at moderates and/or the budgets on weekends when we were trying to save points, but I can tell you this, if the Wilderness Lodge is a deluxe resort, I will take my DVC over the Wilderness Lodge any day of the week and will gladly spend the weekend points to do it from now on. Except for the location of the Wilderness, I think that Port Orleans has nicer rooms.

Oh, while at OKW, I asked to see any infomation on the slide, and I was told that nothing was available. Looks like Doc had some inside connections to get his pictures.

We tried out the new Earl of Sandwich at Downtown Disney and we really liked it. Enough so that we ate there 3 times during the week. Once we got our order and took it back to OKW so we could eat in our studio.

Also, one afternoon we toured around to see Saratoga by driving to the Golf Club. When we were leaving, the gates to the pool were open, so I had hubby stop so I could take pictures. Mind you, I didn't take long and was expecting to get kicked out in the process. The pool looked completely finished and has water in it. It looked very, very nice. Looked like there will be a bus stop right there at the pool for those not staying close by. It does not look as nice as SAB, of course, but nicer than other DVC resort pools. I will get hubby to post them tomorrow. Promise.

That's all for now, have laundry to do and bags to unpack and need to reflect on the past week. Hard to believe that this morning I was standing in the lobby of the Wilderness Lodge and now I am back to reality.

More later.

Adding link to the SSR pictures we took. Just a few. There were more, but 9 of them just turned out totally white, and I was very disappointed. The pool pictures were taken when we road back to the Golf Club house. The other shots were taken from a pontoon boat on Friday. Enjoy. Sorry there aren't more and that I don't know exactly what everything is on here.

when you get to the log in screen enter jwm6780 and then Saratoga for the password.

Definitely a whirlwind trip! Can't wait to see photos of SSR pool!

Thanks for all the info. Really enjoyed the description of each stop in your trip. Good to know about Pop Century. I have read really great reviews about it on the resort board too. Gives another option other than spending those weekend points!

Thanks for posting about the four resorts you stayed at last week! We stopped by Disney's Hilton Head one time on our drive to WDW & got the room you didn't like. Since I am not supposed to do stairs for medical reasons & it was only one night, we didn't mind the room at all. Plus it is right near the laundry :)!

Great report...sounds like you had a good time. Can't wait to try Earl of Sandwich...I have a feeling we will be there often!

You've confirmed my fears about "regular" hotel rooms being too small after staying at DVC. I guess we'll always look for condos and timeshares for our vacations from now on.

You've confirmed my fears about "regular" hotel rooms being too small after staying at DVC

I guess one of the reasons I was so disappointed in Wilderness Lodge is that we had never stayed at a Deluxe after staying at DVC, only at a moderate or at All Stars. I expected moderates and budgets to not be on the same par as DVC, but I expected that a Deluxe wouldn't be so much of a let down. :( I might mention that there was no lack of service or anything, and the lobby is great, and it was nice having the restaurants and gift shop right there, but the room kind of negated all those things. I may be wrong, but we stayed at Caribbean Beach last fall, and I felt the rooms there were bigger than Wilderness Lodge. Oh well, at least I know not to book a Wilderness Lodge room again.

We've only stayed at CSR (or offsite because of business) before...so I understand. We like to visit the WL to hang out in the lobby, shop, etc. We've actually never had a chance to try the restaurants...but I'm sure that will change with all of the upcoming DVC trips!

Forgot to mention...can't wait to see the pictures of the SSR pool!

I have become so spoiled by DVC I can not stay in regular hotel rooms anymore without severe mental anguish.:p

When I go on family trips, or business trips, here in the Midwest I constantly look for hotels with deals on suites.

My friend owns at Hilton Grand Vacations, and before I purchased DVC he was constantly telling me he could not stay in a regular hotel room anymore. Of course I informed him that he was nuts.

But alas, I now totally understand what he was saying. I have to have at least a suite and crave DVC accomodations. ::yes::

I never considered WL a deluxe becasue of the rooms being so small, the rest of the place qualifies for a deluxe but the rooms put it at the moderate level as far as I am concerned. There should be a rule at DVC and all of WDW for that matter that they do not give out Handicap rooms unless you request them. It happens to often to many at DVC and should stop. We just had another poster complain at noise coming from unit at OKW when staying in a studio also. Also the same person complained about outside noise from construction. so you are not alone in the department. I have not stayed in a normal room except WL when it first opened up, I though it would be a deluxe room but with the two beds there was very little room to walk. Like another poster said suites are really the only room for me for years now. You should try the one bedroom the next time-lot better-and the masterbedroom is away in the back where it is always quite.

I have tried the one bedroom and also the two bedroom, and I agree they are a lot better, but we have made so many trips in the last year that points are getting scarce. There are just 3 of us so an OKW studio really is o.k. for a short trip.

One more thing, I had wondered many times if all rooms at OKW with a lockout were on the right hand side of the building. We have always had a room that when you walked in the beds were on your right and bathroom to your left. This trip the beds were on the left and bathroom to the right. Because in 5 other studio stays we had always had the same set up before, I thought maybe all lockouts on the right side of the building and all dedicated rooms on the left. I had asked that question on these Boards before and no one ever answered me. So I solved my own mystery this trip.

Here is the building configuration of OKW that Doc did last year. You will note that many buildings have the lock off units on both ends of the building with dedicated 2 bedrooms in the middle.

We too seem to always get the left handed units, but last time we had a right handed 2 bedroom, and it seems wrong! LOL!

Hey Diane, thanks for posting that. We are thinking about a trip to OKW and that helps. Actually we are starting to seriously consider buying DVC! Yikes! See that you are going in October - we'll be there with a "grand gathering" at BCV. DId you get airfares yet? Or do you drive? The airfare out of MSP is certainly a factor in our DVC decision. We won't be driving down there any time soon - I hate car trips and the kids have limited time off!

The airfare from Minnesota during MEA week (when our grand gathering is), is not great, but will get better maybe as we get closer. We plan to drive in October and fly in December. We haved discovered that airfares can bounce all over the boards from MSP to MCO.

Thanks for the report and the pictures! Is the slide small? It looks it to me or I am just not looking correctly? Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the great pix! One question, from your perspective, how big did the pool look? Maybe as compared to Luna Pool at BWV? (If you're familiar with that one.) We are anxiously looking forward to our 1st trip home to SSR in November!

I have to say that the pool was a bit smaller than I thought it would be, but then I was comparing to SAB, and that really isn't fair. I also didn't look that long as I was expecting to be arrested and/or kicked out at any minute. I could hear workers in the buildings around the pool and I thought for sure someone would question my presence, so I got in and out as quickly as I could. There were construction materials around in areas where chairs would be, and I am sure that made the whole area seem smaller. Also that rock formation kind of closes it in a bit.

I do think that once all the mess is cleared up that it is going to be a really lovely area.

The landscaping of SSR is really taking shape nicely. I think the resort is going to be just beautiful.

I have mentioned before and I will note again, we were out in the middle of the water between DTD and SSR and we could not hear any noise. I think all those worried about the noise don't have any need to. I hope I am right about this.

Great pictures. I can't wait till our visit in June. THe buildings look great. Pool area does look a little small. I thought this was supposed to be a very large pool area. Still looks great though. Thanks for posting the pics.
