Help me understand one time use points. According to our info you can purchase 24 one time use points per use year and you can only purchase 24 in a siingle trasaction. Here is my question...My family and I are targeting 2014 as out family trip to Aulani and we aer going to need to use 3 years worth of points. We will bank 2013, use 2014 and borrow from 2015. This will get us the lowest type of room we need. If I could supplement our account with 50 or 60 points we could get a slightly better view room or even open ourselves for a different season. Questions
1) can I bank 2013 on time use points into 2014
2) When do I need to buy them
3) Can I use multiple one time use points for a single reservation

As a Disney Vacation Club Member, occasionally you may find yourself in need of just few extra vacation points in order to book that perfect dream vacation. Previously, this required borrowing vacation points from a future use year, but very recently a new alternative was introduced. They're called "one-time-use" vacation points and are available for a fee of $15 ($13.33 plus $1.67 tax) per vacation point. Availability of one-time-use vacation points may be limited or suspended from time to time, and the fee is subject to change.
Details:
  • One-time-use vacation points are vacation points available for Disney Vacation Club Members to use as an alternative to borrowing vacation points from the following use year's allotment.
  • You can obtain a maximum of 24 one-time-use vacation points once per use year per membership.
  • A maximum of 24 one-time-use vacation points are processed in a single transaction, not multiple transactions.
  • The fee for one-time-use vacation points is $15 (including tax) per vacation point, and is subject to change.
  • One-time-use vacation points expire according to the use year of the reservation booked and are non-refundable, non-transferable and cannot be banked or borrowed.
  • One-time-use vacation points are not available for waitlist reservations.
  • One-time-use vacation points cannot be applied retroactively to existing reservations.
  • One-time-use vacation points are only available for Members whose contract is closed and in good standing.
  • One-time-use vacation points are available only for Disney Vacation Club Resorts, Disney Collection*, Adventurer Collection* and World Passport Collection reservations.

    * Available when you purchase directly from Disney.
  • One-time-use vacation points used for Disney Vacation Club resort reservations can only be used up to 7 months prior to arrival.
  • One-time-use vacation points for Disney Collection, Adventurer Collection and World Passport reservations can be used according to the booking guidelines for each individual collection.

Nope. Sorry, but one-time-use points don't work that way. No banking and borrowing of entitlements. Your reservation can have a total of 24 OTU points. Period.

You'll want to look at two options.

The first is to look at purchasing some cash nights, rather than purchasing one-time-use points. Cash nights booked through Member Services will be under the same reservation number, and you won't need to check-out/check-in between the points and cash nights. There's limited availability, but you may also be able to get the member discount of 25% for those cash nights. Cash nights can be booked at the 11-month point.

The other option would be to rent points from another member (typically $10-$14 per point) and have them transferred to your account. Renting points requires a level of trust, because it's a private transaction between the two members. Disney will not intervene if you get cheated. Check out the stickies on the rent/trade board. Transferred points retain the original owner's home resort and use year. You'll need to ensure you find points that match your needs to ensure they'll work for your specific vacation dates and home-booking priority period.

I would just like to jump on this one as I too am looking at the same thinng with points for my 2014 Aulani holiday banking 2013 useing 2014 & borring 2015 but im short by 6points so i in theory at least could add 6 one time use points but it seem to state that there only instead of borrowing points not including the borrowed points ?
so would that mean i would have to pay a cash one night or could i just add 6 one time use points ?
Many thanks for any help

You can use the one-time use points. They can be combined with your own banked, borrowed and current use year points.

This si a very good thread, thank you for posting the great information.

What they are referring to is that you can not purchase one time use points, as long as you have banked and/or current UY points in your account to cover the reservation. You an only buy them when your only option is to borrow.

This happened to me last fall. I was booking a last minute December trip for my DS and his girlfriend. It was October and I wanted to buy one time use points instead of using my BWV points since I wanted them to use at my 11 month window which was coming up.

I was not allowed to do that since I had current UY points available. I ended up having to just use them and when my 11 month window came, I had to borrow--since you can't by one time use points--until 7 months.

Interesting. Is this a consistent policy or does it depend on the CM you get when making the reservation? In January of this year I booked a trip for June and was allowed to buy the 24 one time use points even though I still had some current use year points in my account (that I wanted to save for a holiday trip). At the time I was told that you could buy the one time use points as long as it was for a reservation within the next 7 months. Maybe I just got lucky? Has anyone else had this experience?

I have made a "dummy" reservation using current points prior to making a reservation I wanted to use bought points. I needed to save the BWV points for an 11 month reservation and wanted to use up some transferred in SSR points supplemented with buying points. Worked well, after making the reservation with bought points, I cancelled the reservation made to hold my precious BWV points.
