One time use points question

I want to know if what I want to do is allowed before I call member services. I have a trip in March booked at AKL (we own at Poly and CC). I have CC booked in May. I want to try to change to BW at 7 months. It is a 5 point difference for the swap. Can I call and buy 5 points now to use toward my already booked AK reservation to free up 5 of my Poly/CC points to be available to change my May booking online at 8 am on October 15th. I won’t be devastated if I don’t get to swap as we love CC, but my cousin might be joining in on the trip and the extra bed in the studio would be nice. Thanks!

I am not an expert on this so we need other people to weigh in. However, this is how I understand it: You can only buy one time use points at the time that you make the booking. After that if you cancel the booking you can apply the points somewhere else. But they will only sell them at the time you make the booking to apply to that reservation.

This is my understanding because I called one time to try to buy one time use points for a reservation that I already had. The cast member told me that, no, I could not. She said I could only purchase them at the time that I made the booking and it would have to be a booking in the seven months or less window. So there is my experience from the one and only time that I tried to purchase one time use points.

Thanks for your experience. My AK reservation is no longer available, so I don’t want to cancel and rebook. If BW is still open at my window, I may just try to call in at 9 instead. I have more points but those are for our Poly stay in October of next year which I will he booking at 11 months in November.

I was under the impression that you can only buy if you are completely out of points, so I don't think you could ever buy points to free up other points?

No. You do not need to be out of points to buy them.

One time use points have now increased in cost from $17 per point to $19 per point. I guess they didnt want their points costing less than the rental broker’s charge
