One room with teens ?

we have 4 kids....DS are 15 &17 while the DD are 14 & 10....we too find it a bit harder when looking at resorts and are not fond of the suites at the value. the last trip we got 2 rooms at CBR and it worked well.....even though the boys dont always get along, having their own room did help(us at least!)....I would love to do deluxe again, but we go over xmas and the price is just crazy!.....my kids are more excited to do POP this year than the last 2 trips.....

I did CBR with my DD16 and DS14. They are the epitome of sibling rivalry but the room was not an issue, i had more problems with them in the parks! We stayed preferred and the couple incidences we did have were easily resolved by 1 heading to the pool or the food court. We were in Martinique 2626 which opened right into a courtyard with chairs and tables and was very peaceful.

Condolences! We had four kids but boy/girl/boy/girl. Was tougher on bunking from time to time but less conflicts.
Have you checked out renting points from a DVC owner? It's often more affordable and sometimes very much so.

Hi,
It's some years since I have been to my favourite place on earth.now my kids are almost grown and will be age 15 and 17 next August when I return. Problem is my 2 daughters squabble non stop and I am worried how it will affect our stay. We have vacationed around the world a bit past few years and have been fortunate enough to get one bedroom suites for very cheap. I want to keep hotel costs down but stay onside. Due to our families ages I think values are a no no so 2 rooms there is out. I have previously enjoyed moderates such as por and cbr that would accommodate us and allow us to step immediately outside room to outdoors but worried inside will be cramped. I am wondering of anyone here has had similar experience (2 rooms 2 pricey) upgrade to deluxe possible but no immediate outside access for cooling off time for teens ?

We have two daughters these ages and honestly never have had a problem like that and we go frequently. We generally stay deluxe, have only upgraded to a suite once. The monorail deluxes, along with the EPCOT ones, all have rooms with daybeds, so one can use it if necessary. The rooms at WL and AKL are noticeably smaller, pretty much same size as a moderate, only advantages over mods are balconies and inside corridors.

As far as them taking forever to get out of the room...... try this.... When we traveled with my dsil and her three boys we stayed at the Marriott Cypress Harbour she told the boys "the van leaves at this time if you not up and ready. Take the buses to the parks." They were up and ready everyday. :rotfl2:

When I was a teen, either I behaved or next time I would stay home. Never did they went out of their way and spend more money just so we could tolerate each other. You are the parent, you set the rules and they need to follow rules especially if you are the one paying for the hotel not them. I am 21 years old, so I understand your situation, because I once was one of those teens, but truth is, sending them to a separate room will not reduce the squabble, it will only increase, just without you knowing.

Thanks for replies. Some excellent suggestions and insight. I am thinking of splitting a stay. Will be there 2 weeks so planning 1 week at the AKL (good prices during value season & likely free dining) and either 1 week offsite (condo or villa whilst we do offsite shopping & Universal Studios). :) Hopefully that will give us the magic of Disney resort plus space and relaxation.

have you considered the cabins at ft wilderness? they are pretty big, they wouldnt have to sleep in the same bed, and there is a big deck to cool off, or take a walk, its pretty serene there. We took 6 and fit so there wouldnt be a problem with 4. my kids also fight alot, but fortunately they never did on vacation. It seems disney brought out the best in them.:goodvibes wish I could figure out the in between vacation times.:confused3

I was also going to suggest the cabins. Never stayed there myself, but often considered them since we have 3 kids and often an extra adult (my sister) along on our trips. But there is only 1 bathroom. If you are considering Club level, Beach/Yacht and Boardwalk seemed to be the cheapest club options for the dates I was checking (Sept but this was w/ a room only discount code).

We went over the same choices over and over and over. Our situation is a little different. We're bringing dd's friend with us so we'll have two 15yr olds and an 8 yr old. So we didn't need space from squabbling (though dd does get cranky with her little brother) but space to not feel awkward with someone else's child there.
In the end (after changing my mind 800 times) we settled on the Cabins for the exact reasons mentioned previously.
Separate sleeping areas (we'll put the girls on the murphy bed), plenty of space to roam around and a little more breathing room than we would have in one room at a Deluxe.
My husband didn't like the two rooms at a value option and one room at a Deluxe felt like not enough privacy.
So there you have it:)

I feel for you! My DDs are the same ages and generally fight like cats and dogs! But they have been getting along wonderfully for the past month or so - there is hope. Two years ago, we were staying with family at BLT in a 2BR and they had been picking at each other and bickering non-stop until we adults couldn't take it anymore. We literally locked them out on the balcony and told them they couldn't come in until they worked it out. It took over an hour, and I'm surprised no one called security on them for some of the yelling that took place while they were out there, but they did work it out and mostly behaved the rest of the trip.

So a balcony is a good alternative for a cooling off place if you don't have a direct outside. It's also a good jail cell if needed. :rotfl2:

Yeah have considered the cabins but I think that would be a better choice for when we would be cooking in room rather than free dining plan. I do like the wilderness theming and adore wildlife but for this trip I think I will chance a one room stay split with 3 bed condo or villa. I am trying to keep resort costs to under $300 per night in order to free up more cash for clothes shopping and uso seaworld etc, however i do enjoy a resort with hot tub and nice landscaping. I had considered 2 rooms at CSR as i love the theming and havent stayed there (have stayed por and cbr) but that would cost more and am not keen on conventions taking place where we stay - had that before at royal pacific and some uk upscale hotels and I think it dampens things.
Have decided if the girls squabble they will be left behind. Maybe in a year they will get on a bit better
