One place to eat

I don't see how any trip to DL could be complete without BB. And it's not necessarily about the food, but the experience.

I miss lunch at Taste Pilot's Grill in DCA and if by some magic I had no more celiac and allergies I would drive the hour plus trip to eat there every day. Sigh, no more corn dogs and club sandwiches and potato salad for me, life is different.

I would have to say Club 33 as I have never eaten there and never will.

Of all the places I have eaten it is the Blue Bayou for atmosphere and PCH Grill for safe food where I was spoiled.

Cafe orleans for breakfast when we are with the kids.
Without the kids blue Bayou.

I can't go to DL without having an Safari Skewer (asparagus with bacon) from Bengals BBQ.

So go to Taste Pilots and don't get the buns. They will do that for you. :) My BFF has celiac's and TPG is one of her faves to eat at. Or get the ribs, they are sooooooooooo good!!!!! Corn dogs and potato salad? They have gluten? What am I missing??

Not in the parks, but Goofy's Kitchen. Tons of food choices, great quality and as much of what we like as we can handle. Great way to start the day - load up on protein items and fruit and then we are not hungry again until dinnertime. Plus, I like the characters!

Somehow I knew you would vote for this one, hehehe. You def. sold me on it.

If you're changing it for lunch make your PS for the first time available right at opening...that way you are "almost" guaranteed a waterside table. We checked in about 15 minutes early and were seated second right by the water.

Thanks for this tip, MommyWithDreams.

I have celiac which means no wheat, gluten unless I know it is not from wheat, rye, barley and oats. Right now I am getting intense itch attacks from canned milk and butter. Right now I am so tempted to take my shirt off so I can use the hacksaw blade on my back, not the sharp side though. No eggs and once I had to drive through Brown County forests in Indiana after eatting very eggy pudding then getting nap attacks.

Not eggs, soy, dairy or chocolate so I miss so much mayo, tartar sauce, and potato salad. I miss the tuna salads at the Pirate ship. Bring those back.

I begged Chris in foods for info on soy in foods and got none. Ribs are not listed as being gluten free. I want to try Rancho Zocalo and see if it is near as good at Taco Bell or Uncle Tomas at Rosewood restaurants. I am partially hispanic and live in a hispanic community so I know real hispanic food. In San Antonio I told a restaurant manager that he has great food but it aint like the real Mexican food. But the chef is Mexican, lol. I know good food especially Hispanic.

I have never had a Monte Cristo sandwich and which they could do one with gluten free bread and rice flour. There is little for people who are gluten free unlike WDW. Perish the thought that you ask for anything like soy and dairy free for counter service unlike WDW.

It has been years since I ate at the Lucky Fortune and do miss the Soap Opera restaurant, their chocolate flourless cake was to die for.

Can I ask is there a childs menu at the WCT?

I think Carnation Cafe has the BEST latte's & baked potaoe soup! Good thing I go there in 2 days because now i[ve made myself hungry for it. :rotfl: Can;t wait

Yes they do but it may change as the whole park is going through changes.

I seriously wish I could just take all the food from CO and Goofy's Kitchen and just transfer it to a waterside table in BB, then just gobble it all down.

Somehow I knew you would vote for this one, hehehe. You def. sold me on it.

Hee hee!;) :thumbsup2 You were right! I mean, that's what I would choose for my one meal. I don't necessarily recommend it to someone else if they only had one regular meal to eat in the parks because it is a more expensive option, and places like Wine Country Trattoria and Carnation Cafe and Storytellers are good for cheaper 'regular' meals....but I do recommend GK to someone who will be able to eat a few meals at DLR, for sure, and wants a character meal in there somewhere!:lmao:

I might even buy into that idea, Sherwin! Even though I like the characters at GK, I might be able to do without them for a meal or two if I could take the whole GK buffet and transfer it over to Blue Bayou and eat waterside.:lmao: See, I like the atmosphere of BB a lot, but I am not interested enough in the food choices there to pay that much money to eat. So this way I could have the best of both worlds!:thumbsup2 ;)

So love this place! The grilled veggie and chicken skewers are good, too.

We have had terrible experiences at Goofy's, but after reading all your posts, I am so tempted to try it again. We weren't planning a character meal this trip, but I keep thinking about trying breakfast there. You nearly have me convinced. :lmao:

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: My evil plan is working! I will have you all converted eventually!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Muhahahahahhaha!!!!!

No seriously, though - so you tried the dinner at Goofy's and not breakfast? When I had the dinner there - which granted, was a long time ago - I was not that blown away, simply because of my preferences. It's not the quality of food that I didn't like. The quality was fine, and is probably better now. It was just my own pickiness, I think. My mindset. I think I just didn't like whatever dinner choices they had out at that time, and also I was not very hungry so nothing looked appealing, and it was and IS a lot of money to spend when you don't feel that hungry. The characters were fine, though. But if that had been my first impression of Goofy's, I would have thought it was just so-so and not gone back. In fact, one friend of mine tried to get me to go back for dinner there not too long ago and I am STILL hesitant! Years later, after that first dinner experience, I still cannot quite force myself to spend the money there for dinner again. And I have seen the more recent listings of the dinner choices, and they look much better than what they had when I did dinner there, but I cannot make myself pull the money out of the wallet and make a PS for Goofy's dinner, even though I am sure it would be better than my last dinner there. So I can totally understand being reluctant to try something when you have already had a so-so or bad experience there and paid a LOT of money for it. You just don't want to take that risk again when it costs so much money. My friend doesn't even want to go back to Carnation for breakfast again (dinner is okay) because she didn't like it and that was not too expensive at all! She just doesn't want to waste the money on taking a risk.

But, yes, the Goofy's breakfast/brunch is great and that is the one I would suggest if you were to ever try it again. But if you have already had bad experiences there, then I can totally understand not wanting to go back. I know most folks love Blue Bayou, but I can take or leave it, food-wise, so I wouldn't want to spend that kind of money to go there again unless I won the lottery. The ambience and setting is fantastic at BB, though!

Ok so you have allergies to milk & eggs as well, that's why no potato salad for you. :) I know what Celiac's is, as I said before my BFF has Celiac's. She eats the ribs at TPG all the time, it's one of her favorite places to go. That and Pizza Port, she gets gluten free pasta there. :) I'm very familiar with Celiac's as I have her over for dinner as often as I can. :) We also go camping together and vacation together and I'm her Maid of Honor in October. :) She finally found someone who would make her cake partially gluten free so she could have some without getting sick. :)

Rancho is one of our faves for CS in DL, very good food! IMO much better than Taco Bell! :) It isn't the most authentic Mexican but it's good! We eat there at least once every trip. Making the MC GF would be neat but I wonder if the rice flour bread would hold up as well? hmmmmmm

We had a terrible experience at GK too, and so far Sherry has not been able to convince me to try it again. LOL Sorry Sherry, your evil plan is not working on me. :)

.....Which is why I have never tried to convince you to eat there again!:goodvibes I don't think you should try it again. Your mind is made up! I have always said it's not worth it for someone who has already had a bad time there (or any character meal) to risk spending that kind of money and having a time they are not satisfied with again!! So I haven't even tried the evil plan on you!

I do think, from most accounts, the "bad" experiences at Goofy's seem to be more the exception than the rule, and they seem to be more based on what the guests' preferences are in character meals. Like I didn't really get into the dinner there because of my own tastes, etc. Some folks want more characters. Some folks want more time with each character. Some people want certain types of food and not others. Some people want an equal balance of specific food and lots of characters. Some people like the dinner choices there, but I didn't at that time (though it has been long enough where I probably should give the dinner one more try eventually). Not everyone is going to be pleased with every restaurant. We all have our own preferences.

Last year, we ate dinner at Wine Country Trattoria for my daughter's birthday. We all liked it so much, we ended up going back for lunch 2 days later. :thumbsup2

Have you by any chance tried that delectable-looking orange sorbet served in the fresh orange rind (it looks like it is blood orange sorbet) at WCT? It looks so good in pictures but it has never been the right time for me to eat it when I was there - I was either not hungry enough or it was too cold outside. I wonder if it is as refreshing and delicious as it looks.
