ONE not-to-miss-thing along Main Street USA

Trying desperately to find a little time to do a nice, quiet family stroll along Main Street during our visit next week....but in the past, we always get so caught up in the attractions elsewhere that we never get to it!
If you could pick one thing (okay...maybe two!!) that you would not want to miss along Main Street, what would it be?

I always make time to stop and listen to the barbershop quartet (Dapper Dans??). I also take my time just walking up Main Street, taking the time to take in the details on the buildings.

One thing we always try to do is stop at the Hub, grab something at one of the fast food spots (Main St. Bakery for breakfast, Casey's Corner for lunch or the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor for a late-day treat), grab a table or bench and do some people watching as we eat. Great way to soak in the atmosphere while you regroup!

On one of our MK days we head to the Main St. Bakery about mid-morning for a yummy treat. We head to a table out front of the bakery and sit and watch the scene as we sample all of our treats!!! Last year while sitting and eating we watched the Main St. Dancers come down in the trolly and stoppped and danced right in front of us! One of the dancers even came over to "flirt" with all of us sitting at the bakery. It was alot of fun! We plan on doing it again this year.

We happened to catch the "Mayor" and some dapper gents playing chess and their whole schtick was quite funny. This was while waiting for our PS at Tony's, to the right of the main entrance. I then realized that I spend entirely too little time on Main Street. This year I hope I can squeeze in some time for a hair cut. I've heard that it has great entertainment value, especially if you can snag a spot during the parade.

The 5PM Flag retreat is a nice ceremony. Sometimes it's with a live marching band. My DH participated in it 2 weeks ago as Veteren of the Day (he's active duty, but they can participate too).

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. A haircut at the Barber shop was fun too. Our 1 year old had his 1st haircut there 2 weeks ago and DH went ahead and got his cut too. They did a great job!

The Flag Retreat ceremony is wonderful. It always makes me tear up with pride.

I also enjoy stopping to get a picture with Goofy on the bench near the Exposition Hall.

For a special treat, in the morning they run the horse drawn carriage and fire truck from the entrance to the front of the castle. Anyone standing nearby can hop on board. It makes you feel so special to ride down main street in style.

Get a hot fudge sundae in a waffle bowl and find a bench down the side street and listen to the music lessons going on in the second story window! Or head up to the train station and play the penny games.. lots of fun!

Gosh, there are so many great places to eat on Main Street. We always stop at Casey's for our hot dog and all the fixins. We sit outside and just watch the people or parade. Yes, the bakery is fantastic for treats also. The shops are interesting, but sell the same kind of stuff. There used to be a great little shop as you walked in. They sold some expensive stuff there. Real treasures, but htey are closed now. I would just go in every store on your way up main street. They are certainly worth it. You will find your own special thing to do.

The Expo Hall. In the back there's a small theater that screens Disney cartoons and plenty of great photo opertunities. If you're lucky, you may find a few characters here in the late morning as well, especially Princesses.

We love the Expo hall too...way in the back, youc an sit in a car from mr Toad's wild ride to take pictures, and there are a bunch of cut outs to pose with for photos (scenes from Steam Baot Willie, Snow White, 101 Dalmatians, and more)! We always find characters back here -- and if it rains, there are tons of characters keeping dry in the back!

My favorite restaurants are Tony's (not for the food but because I love Lady & the Tramp!), The Plaza, and the Crystal Palace...alll along Main Street.

We love to have a break sitting up on the Main Street Railroad platform with popcorn or icecream. It's just great to listen to the music, smell the scents, gaze at the castle, and people watch!

Ahhh, you have discovered one of my guilty pleasures ! It's a small tradition for me - the first time we visit the Magic Kingdom on a trip, I have to get my hot fudge sundae. There is just something so complete about sitting on Main Street, slowly savoring my treat, and watching the "World" go by.

You can stop and have your picture taken by one of the MK photographers. There is no obligation to buy anything. On your way out of the park you can check them out and if you like them you can buy them. We had ours taken 2 weeks ago and they turned out great (with the castle in the background)! I think it was $16.95 for a sheet of pictures with 1 - 5x7 and 6 - 2 1/2x 3 1/2 or you can buy 1 8x 10 for the same price. They do this at the entrance of all the parks. We had ours taken at every park and just bought the pictures we liked best.
