We have a last minute trip scheduled for Disney World (leaving in one week) but want to take one or two days to visit Universal and IOA. We are going to stay onsite so that we can use the FOTL perk. I have read on this site that even though we are staying for one night FOTL can actually be used for 2 days. How is this possible when we need to check out in the morning? Don't we need the key cards to continue using FOTL on the second day?

PS. We have been going to Disney for the past 5 years and reading these boards have made are trips the best. Thank you all for the extremely useful reviews and recommendations.

You don't turn in the key cards when you check out. The door locks are reprogrammed for the next guests.

Do they scan these key cards at the park? If they do wouldn't they know that I was checked out?

The dates of your stay are printed on the cards and include the checkout day. It's good until park closing of the last day.

I'll get 2 park passes since we can use the FOTL perk on checkout day. I think that is a great deal.

Thanks Zookeeper13.

Yep, this is how we do it too. Actually we are arriving late that Friday night and staying on our DVC points at OKW and will head to US/IOA Portofino first thing in the morning so that we have all day in the parks. Hopefully we get our room sometimes around noonish to take a break and the next day we'll spend most of the day there until we head back to BLT to check in there for 5 nights. Normally I don't care about the FOTL access, as we generally go early May, late January and mid October, but for a summer visit, FOTL access is a must.

Just wanted to add that after you check out, they'll hold your luggage for you until you're ready to take it!

I am also going for one night, July 8. I have an AP for myself. but for my family I would still buy a 2 day ticket, for the 8th and 9th, am I correct.

Yes. That is the way to do it. Your ticket won't have any dates on it though. You can use it whenever you want.
